  • The MoD is setting the CVF to take a fall.

Some of you may recall that Britain (reasonably) wants access to the more JSF tech. Indeed, there is a threat for a total pull out of the JSF program if the USA doesn't make with the all-inclusive deal.

Well, if Britain is "forced" to pull out of the JSF program, that would leave the CVF high and dry without a airplane to fly off of it (Talks of Rafales or Navalised Eurofighters notwithstanding). If we have no airplane, why have a Carrier? Off to the chopping block you go.

Thoughts? This is the sort of thing that occurs to me on long duty days.

We should give them the access they want. No need to dick around a trusted ally.

Indeed. After the nut-wringer we put Blair through with Iraq it's less than the minimal we can do.

In addition, it isn't like the British haven't help aspects of our warfighting advance by leaps and bounds before. They sold us the CHOBAM formula for tank armor.

Besides, I'd trust their intelligence services to keep this tech secret more than I would ours...

Bush is just being stupid here. The Brits deserve to be treated fairly and as equals.

I don't blame the Americans for this. Relations with Britain are likely to only get cooler from here, after all. Might as well keep all that technology to yourselves.

Not if the Tories get to power. Let the sphincter kissing start over...

I doubt the Tories will kiss much American ass. When was the last time they did anything that intelligent?

Glad to see the special relationship is as good as ever.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

yeah, it would be nice if we got a little back for all we've given in this 'special' relationship.

Yeah, like you lot have really come away with the short end of the stick in our alliance...

From this side of the pond, the special relationship seems to be something America acknowledges when its convenient, ignores it when its not and actively goes against when it wants to.

That's true enough. But would they dare schmooze as stupidly close as Blair has done? I doubt it.
