I have experience with all forms of vision correction...
Glasses are, well, everyone who needs them knows about them. Getting your eyes adjusted to them shouldn't take long though... 3 weeks is probably something to be concerned about.
I wore contacts for about 5 years. As time went by I could tolerate them less and less and stopped wearing them in favor of glasses. I just couldn't stand the feeling of them on my eyes (which are naturally dry to begin with). Plus there are risks there, as mentioned above. I know someone who wore them too much and had stuff grow on his eye... bad news.
Laser surgery is awesome. My vision is 20/15 and it's great not having to hassle with anything. The procedure is very quick, painless and if you go to a reputable location the risks are essentially insignificant. Following the surgery my eyes were somewhat drier but have improved quite a bit. I had halos to start but those have faded. The only artifacts remaining is somewhat of a faint 'prism' effect around really bright lights. But unless you're planning on staring into the sun or messing with bright lights at night it's not a big deal.

The man from Firaxis has spoken. I declare this discussion closed! (haha... stupid contact people lose! )“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, my first time out on the course and I'm not a happy camper. I topped a drive, something I never do unless wearing glasses that make the ground look closer than it is Skulled an approach wedge from 100 out and ended up 40 past the green. But the real problem was lining up putts, turning my head and looking along the projected path was like looking at one of the fun house mirrors.
A buddy told me his daughter had lasik and now has 15/20 vision and it cost her $2800 for both eyes. Too bad, these frames are excellent. They kept the wind out and it was real windy today. But the curvature of the lenses is just too much...

The lenses are curved so they sort of wrap around my face, they're sport frames designed to keep the wind out. I could wear my old glasses and might just end up doing that, they're fine. But they dont block out the wind and I hate it when my eyes start watering.

I've been wearing bifocals for 2 years now. The first set I bought at Wal-Mart, which let me tell you was not a good idea. The optician set the focal point for the near vision too high, and it wasn't at the same point for both lenses. Consequently I had no real distance vision and even for reading the focus was always off in one eye because the focal points on the lenses were improperly matched. I went on with this problem for months, thinking that I just had to adapt to using bifocals. It didn't occur to me that an optical manufacturer could screw up so badly. Finally I was convinced that I had a more serious problem with my eyes, so I went to an ophthalmologist, where the problem with the glasses was discovered.
I wore contacts for several years when I was younger, but stopped after entering anatomy grad schoool. Wearing contacts when being working in formaldehyde is not a good idea. I tried them again when I began residency training, but they weren't comfortable to use when I was on call. After 2 failures I'm not willing to try again."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

The old rule of thumb about contacts and astigmatism no longer applies. There are several designs specifically for that situation.
Lord A, you can tell at a glance whether a lens in flipped inside out or not. Just have a look prior to insertion.
JohnT, that soft plastic lens is actually protecting your eyeball. It's all a matter of perspective (ooh, irony).
I like the idea of Lasik, but "relatively small" odds of failure are not my idea of a good bet where the sense of sight is concerned. YMMV.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

I agree... While people like to say things like "the risks are essentially insignificant", it's not like you a making a bet where all you will lose is money
Every year, Lasik screws up some people's sight. Granted, not many, but I really don't care to end up like one of themKeep on Civin'
