Why don't you tell him where he fails ? My boss is pretty good at fighting for us but on some aspects he is pretty hopeless. I (and others) have told that to him and he promises to improve - maybe some day he will .
Of course, if he is an incompetent jerk, you have a problem
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
