Are you ready for some FOOTBALL! - Hot Stove Edition 2
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Heh... Miami wanted Harrington as their backup for a while so reading anything into Culpepper because of that isn't a good idea.

I just think it's funny that (assuming Favre retires after this year), Rex Grossman stands to have the most in-division seniority as starting QB going into 2007.
Both Culpepper and Harrington are former #1 draft picks. Miami has now covered its bet on Daunte, probably figuring it's unlikely that two first rounders will both fail.

I thought Millen wasn't going to get anything for Harrington, as he didn't accept a 6th rd pick (so with no deal would end up having to cut Harrington), but from what I read on ESPN, the Dolphins bumped their offer up to a 5th rd, and possibly the infamous player to be named later, in order to get Harrington in before the minicamp, which was necessary as Culpepper may not be back until after the season starts.

The Dolphins PR machine seems to agree with Imran that Daunte will be ready for the season.

Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban said QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) has been participating in nearly all of the team's offseason program. "His straight-line running is fine. He's throwing the ball. He's dropping back. He runs the plays and does the handoffs. He wears a knee brace and he probably does it about three-fourths speed, but we're very pleased with his progress." Saban was not sure when Culpepper will be 100 percent healthy, but noted that Dr. James Andrews graded the quarterback at an A-plus in terms of where he was in the rehab.

MIAMI (May 15, 2006) -- The Miami Dolphins saw enough potential in Marcus Vick -- both on- and off-the-field -- to believe he deserves a chance as a free agent.
Vick, the brother of Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick, signed with the Dolphins May 15, agreeing to a free-agent deal after his many problems at Virginia Tech cost him a chance to be selected in the NFL draft.
"As an organization, we did an enormous amount of research, including consulting with professionals in detailed, in-depth analysis to feel comfortable that giving Marcus an opportunity as a free agent is a risk worth taking," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said in a statement released by the team.
"I want to make it very clear that we will not condone any behavior issues in the future relative to Marcus Vick. Marcus acknowledges that he has made some mistakes, all of which has resulted in severe consequences for him. They have helped him learn that he will need to make much better choices and decisions in the future or risk similar consequences that could jeopardize his career as a professional player."
Vick, who participated in a three-day minicamp with the Dolphins earlier this month, completed 177 of 289 passes for 2,393 yards with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, leading Virginia Tech to an 11-2 record and berth in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game in 2005.
But his career with the Hokies included many transgressions. He made an obscene gesture to fans during a game at West Virginia, and stomped on Louisville player Elvis Dumervil's leg during the Gator Bowl.
Vick was suspended by Virginia Tech for the 2004 season because of legal problems, then was eventually dismissed from the team after being stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license.
The Dolphins are listing Vick as a "wide receiver-quarterback-specialist," clearly indicating that he could be tried in a number of roles.
During the recent minicamp, Vick spent at least one practice session at wide receiver, and probably isn't being looked at as a serious quarterback candidate -- not with newcomers Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington now at that position.
Miami signed three other free agents: tight end Keith Heinrich, linebacker Keith Newman and cornerback Michael Lehan.
Heinrich was on Cleveland's injured reserve list for the entire 2005 season with a knee injury and has played in 18 games since being drafted by Carolina in 2002.
Newman has played with Buffalo, Atlanta and Minnesota in seven seasons, starting 76 of 92 games and recording 407 tackles, 23 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and seven forced fumbles.
Lehan, like Vick, attended the rookie minicamp this month on a tryout basis. He spent the last three seasons with the Browns and made 32 appearances, including four starts.
I wonder what the over/ under is as far as him committing another "transgression", and if Saban would really let him go because of it......

Oh yeah, and I don't think Saban will be having Vick be Keith Traylor's roomie any time soon....
PRYOR, Okla. (May 16, 2006) -- Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Keith Traylor is free on bond after being charged with driving under the influence and illegal possession of a prescription drug, according to court documents.
Traylor was arrested on misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal possession of the prescription antidepressant Xanax, said Rebecca Young, a spokeswoman for Mayes County District Attorney Gene Haynes.
The 337-pound Traylor was also charged with felony injury to a public building for tearing a smoke detector off a wall while he was in jail after his arrest Saturday, Young said.
He was charged and released on $5,000 bond, records show.
Traylor is due back in court July 20, Young said.
The 36-year-old has spent 15 years in the NFL. Last season was his first with Miami. He's also played with Denver, Kansas City, Chicago and New England, winning two Super Bowls with the Broncos and one with the Patriots.
