I believe the corruption occurs nationwide but the one which effects me most directly occurs in my city and is being perpatrated by the local Republican Party.

Hell, a second party would be nice.

If less government is so great, why aren't all the libertarians moving to Somolia and the Congo? Those countries have no governments.

          Fresno is pretty bad too.

Anyway, my suggestion is to have more transparency in our politicians.

Kid's advocating shooting holes in politicians. Somebody call the FBI.

I guess you could join and/or contribute to some local corruption watch-dog group, Oerdin. One that makes lotsa noise, regardless of which party is being dirty.

Well that's the solution to cut down corporate corruption. I think cities will start to follow that lead.

                FYI

Senate rebuffs plan for independent ethics investigator

WASHINGTON — The Senate rejected a proposal to establish an independent office to investigate ethics complaints against its members and then cleared the way to pass a broad-based ethics and lobbying bill this week.

On a 67-30 vote, the Senate defeated a bipartisan proposal to create an office of public integrity, which its backers said was designed to strengthen enforcement of Senate rules and bolster voters' trust in Congress in the wake of the guilty plea in January of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Opponents of the integrity office argued that the Senate's Select Committee on Ethics was already policing complaints thoroughly and without bias and did not need an independent office to assist its investigations.

The main reason we have so many corrupt politicians is because they get to write their own rules. We need more independent investigators to nail these bastards when they're being unethical and we need every single thing the fellow does while in office to be a matter of public record.

                      Possibly civilization had the answer:

                      Build more courthouses.

                      Build secret palace

Build closer to the capitol... no wait.

The whole idea that the Capitol is the least corrupt is fundamentally wrong.

p.s. If you're talking CivIII, distance-to-capital corruption applied in Despotism, Monarchy, Republic and Democracy. In CivII, I think it was D/M/R. In CivIV, it applies unless you're running the state property econ civic.

In the last year we've had one mayor resign for cooking the city's books in order to hide massive financial obligations, two city council men arrested for accepting bribes from strip club owners, and one Congressman convicted of accepting bribes to rig defense contracts.
if they're being exposed and arrested/convicted then you're doing fairly well at fighting it as it stands.

That assumes that the four exposed where the extent of the problem. I'd say they're just the blatant ones and that the corruption goes much deeper.

National politics is plagued by curroption which has gotten astronomically worse since the Republicans took over. It's so obvious that campaign contributions buy votes from Congressmen, Senators, and the President but we can't even get an independent investigator to investigate the rampant corruption.
