Will this kill US support for the War on Terror?

Basically the Afghanistani government we are allied with is threatening to execute a man for converting from Islam to Christianity.

I personally think we don't have much choice in this matter as the only alternative to the government in Afghanistan is to allow a pro-Al Qaeda government into power. But I can really see this making alot of Americans demand that we not ally with a government that does this.

I think that I saw this posted in another thread.. but you are right, it should get it's own.

Other countries we have been allied with have done similiar things, the administration generally asks them to be quiet about it, and tries to get it to disappear here.

Personally I think freedom of concience is one of the most important basic human rights, and governments should allow it's free expression as much as possible. I would even, I think, be fine with us going to war over that (by freedom of conscience, I mean for any religion (like the one they practice in China), nost just Christianity...) not that we ever would (for the most part we just war over resources, or for our own power, like every other nation).

I consider freedom of conscience to be one of the few natural rights (God given if you would)

(it is the reason why I dislike church and state not being seperated...)

In Islam their prophet specifically orders that apostates (that is muslims who give up the faith or convert to other religons) must be killed. The prefered method is stoning to death.

Remember it is a religion of peace though.

Edit: Or rather their cult leader claimed god told him to kill all apostates. Religious founders really are nothing more then cultists and religions are nothing more then cults which become so large people decide they're respectable.

Because I think the US said form a 'democratic' government and the Afghanis went ahead and did so. US wanted to have 'democracy' and make it seem like the new Afghani government had autonomy (and wasn't a colony), so it didn't "veto" their laws. Though I'm not sure that the US saying you can't have Sharia in your law would have worked very well either.

We're sending boys and girls to bleed and die to punish those that attacked us. What government they set up afterwards is up to them.
