OK, Since Krazy Horse won't be getting in to town until Friday night and I will be getting into town tomorrow night then staying with the others in Newark for friday-sunday nights and leaving Monday around 5pm. I've booked a one night stay at a youth hostel called Manhattan Inn. It only cost $38 with tax so that's pretty good considering it's located in central Manhattan. My plane won't arrive until midnight and I plan on taking PATH from Newark to Manhattan (I really hope it is open) then either walking or catching the subway to the hostel.

If the bars aren't closed then I'll check one or two of them out in Manhattan before going to bed. Friday I want to get up early and hit up the Met and central park for sure and then the rest of the day is open. Sometime on this trip I want to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, go to Ellis Island, see the Statue of Liberty, go to the top of the Empire State building, visit China Town (hitting up Joe Shanghai's on Pell St), the NY Public Library (I want a picture with those lions), the Guggenheim, Wall Street, and Battery Park. Am I forgetting anything?

If anyone is in New York and wants to meet up for a few beers then PM me and we can exchange phone numbers. I expect a bunch of the poly/CG crowd will be getting together on Friday night with a formal meet happen at Zum Schneider on Saturday afternoon/night.

It opened well over a year ago. It was in fact the first thing to reopen in the WTC site.

The PATH does not run all night, but it would certainly be running in the day. I think the last traints are around 12:30 AM or so. THe site I linked to should have the information on train schedules.

I've been told that PATH doesn't run from the Newark airport but another train does and it still ends up in Manhattan. Sound right?

It appears so, thought I have never taken this train.

Here is the site with fares and such:

Book New York Hotels, find out about museums, culture, and the sights New York City has to offer. Start planning your trip to NYC today with ny.com.

It appears you can take the airtrain to one of the train stations, then connect to NJ Transit commuter trains, which then take you into Penn Station, or you might be able to transfer to the PATH.

Here is the linki to NJ Transit trains:

These are commuter light rai trains with pretty active schedules.

You sould go to their site and do a trip from the Newark international Airport station to Penn Station, and it will give you the scheduled trains and fare info.

PATH runs from Downtown Newark. From Newarks Penn Station, to be exact. Very close to the NJT and Amtrak trains.

Airtrain should work perfect for me. The plain lands at 12:20 so I just have to pick up my bag and get to the train station for the 1am train which will take 20 minutes to get to New York Penn Station. Total train faire $12. Not bad. Thanks for the help.

I'm now in Manhattan though it was a huge ordeal to get her. Continental Airlines was 40 minutes late and took 20 minutes to get our bags so I missed the last train to New York City and ended up on a bus. Newarks bus system seems to run in some pretty run down neighborhoods but all turned out well in the end. Tomorrow I explore Manhattan.

That was most definetly cutting it close with the plane and train. If I checked in a bag, I leave at least one hour in between, if not more.
