If you want a good RPG series, with both good dialogs and fights, go to Fallout 1 & 2. You'll see some interesting story, enemies, conversation, NPCs and all. And the second game is even better, with great combats, like fights against Enclave Patrols or Deathclaws!
I got completely sick of Civ games a while back, and started playing Adventures, including some golden oldies. Broken Sword I is a superb game. Darkfall and Black Mirror were both good too.

Oh well this looks like a good thread to ask for recomendations as well. I need a game as well. Been playing the hell out of City of Heroes/Villains. Looking to have a suplemental outlet for my addiction. Empire at War and Guild Wars are looking interesting but I'd like to see what you come up with.
Save your cash on Empire at War.
It will be one of the best games you have played...
... for a few hours.
It gets very frustrating the more you get into it. The main complaint is that it is just so dang small. The initial battles are great, but the maps do not get any bigger as you progress even though you have a ridiculously larger number of ships available to you. In the end, you spend far more time just trying to find the ship or group of ships you want than doing anything with them.
Of course, the above comments refer to the Campaign. Haven't tried the Skirmish mode much, but I am not expecting much.
If you wait until this becomes a buget title, you will be much happier. It is defintely NOT worth 50 bucks.

The second one isn't too bad either, both are worthwhile.
Replayed them not so long ago too.

given what you wrote in the other thread ... well if something is below recommended - what CPU do you actually have?

How fast is your CPU exactly? Don't forget, 3 GHz is the recommended setting - it will still run good at a lower CPU. Just not on the maximum settings, but that's not the point of the game - IMHO.
Buy the game, then if you for some reason think it doesn't look pretty enough on below-max settings, consider your upgrade options.
