Do you get BBC television in India?
Just to clear that up, it is "The New Series, Season One". Overall it's the 27th or something.

Wow, 27 seasons! The Brits are deeper into cheese than the Danish or Wisconsonians. Cheddar I presume?

Mostly it's only cheesy in retrospect and was very good sci-fi/horror at the time.

The thing is that nobody will admit they were hiding behind the sofa as the Daleks charged in screaming "EX-TERMIN-ATE!!!" so they say it's cheesy and awful.

Which it is now, but you know- retrospect.

The new series is slightly a victim of it's roots in that respect, but I think it's very good in manageing to update Dr Who and not piss all over what has come before at the same time.

And, any series that manages to make pepper-pot shaped aliens with screachy voices actually frightening gets my respect.

And yes, the 9th Dr, Christopher Ecclestone stars in the 27th series of Dr Who, with the 10th, staring in the 28th which is coming this year.

Borg-alikes the Cybermen are set to return in the 28th series. Although it would be fairer to describe the Borg as Cybermen-alikes...

The other reason we're on the 27th Series is because tv seasons work very differently in the UK than in the US--often times, the episode order is far lower, while the shows are each slightly longer.

For instance: Coupling has 4 series, but only 28 episodes--or enough for ~1.5 American tv seasons.

Or, the British Office: 2 series, 2 special, for 14 episodes. Half an American season, or so.

What the heck happened to Christopher Ecclestone? His replacement, David Tennant, doesn't look the "Dr Who" type.

Give the lad a chance, I think he did alright in the Christmas special...

DO most TV shows in England only make about 9 or 10 episodes/year?

I don't know if most do, but it's my understanding that's how most British TV works--Fawlty Towers, for instance, is really only 12 episodes long: 2 series of 6 episodes.

As far as Eccleston, it ended up that he didn't wish to continue the role.

Tennant, I think could be a good Doctor--he was pretty good in The Christmas Invasion, even if that episode was a bit wonky and Kirk-like.

I was positively surprised by Tennant in The Christmas Invasion. It could work out.
