You americans should show some consideration for us across the pond, how will we ever know of what you speak without informative pictures that show us these different mouth watering obesity traps?
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

I can't get past that. Although it is pretty tender.

McDonald's (ok, ex-McDonald's) cheap gringo-ified burritos are the best?

They're not bad but they cost more then the real thing plus they don't have the flavor a true authentic meal would have. Just go to a taqueria where the signs are all in Spanish and all the customers are Mexicans. Then you will be in the right place.

BTW There's a place called Free Bird's in Santa Barbara which is basically the exact same as Chipotle only it was founded 35 years ago. They're still basically gringo-ifed Mexican fast food but it isn't bad (much like Chipotle isn't bad). I'm convinced a McD's exec came in to Free Bird's and then decided to steal the business plan.

Literally, it means barbeque, and it bears a great resemblance to Korean barbeque. You would know it as pot roast. As for Mrs Tubes is talkin' about, I don't know. Different parts of Mexico have different words for different things.

Although head cheese or tongue burritos are not unheard of in real Mexican taquerias.

Ya Mrs. T to me it tastes the way it looks.

The chili is all gooey and doesn't add to the burger it totally breaks it.

When it comes to an old fashioned fast food burger they're great. I do like Carl's Junior's $5 burger though especially if it has guacamole and spicy pepper jack cheese.

Already linked to before. Free Bird's says it was founded in 1987, while Chipotle was in 1993 in Colorado. And McDonald's did not create Chipotle, but bought the company in 1997 from the creator. All McD's did was take the formula by the creator and spread it around the country.

I'm amazed at how much ignorance and BAMs you can cram into one post.

I know that McD's bought it, changed it around, mass marketed it, then sold it. It's still a McD's creation. As for the date the restaurant opened I know the original place has lots of old pictures going back to the 60's so I figured it was around back then though maybe people just had free bird written on their shirts. I do know that they've started to francise themselves so now you'll find outlets in Texas and not just in Santa Barbara any more.

Its on their FAQ on Freebird's website. Basically it seems that all these fast food burrito places showed up at roughly the same time (mid 80s to mid 90s) and became popular at some point in the 90s.

Though claiming one of them stole it from another is just a BAM, considering that McD's ended up buying one of those originals and using that formula.

The majority of the customers (and workers) at my Chipoltle are Mexican.

I say this as someone who is usually a stickler for authentic foods, someone who'd much rather go to a little, authentic Mexican restaurant than a Don Pablos, a little Italian place rather than an Olive Garden, or rather drink a great Bavarian or Belgian beer than a Coors or Budweiser:

"Authentic" Burritos and Chipoltle burritos are two very different things. I've had authentic burritos from little holes in the wall, I like those authentic burritos, but I'd take a Chipoltle burrito over them 9 times out of 10.

I don't look at a barbacoa burrito as being authentic, I don't even think of it as being Mexican food. I just take it for what it is: relatively cheap, filling, and delicious. They could call it Chinese or Indian for all I care.
