The problem is that there isn't people today who advocate, for example, Aristotelean physics. It would be fine if Creationism wasn't seriously considered by the public.
You have a little bunch of wackos who advocate geocentrism, yet, you can still mention it when teaching about Galileo. Similarly, in Britain, you have a little bunch of wackos who advocate creationism, and there's no reason for them to prevent mentioning it as an idea that was common when evolution was conceptualised.
The aberration is the US, where the bunch of wackos who advocate creationism is very large and influent. Fortunately for them, the Rosbifs have dumped most of their religious wackos on your territory while it was still time

But that's the problem. This would just give justification to the creationists in America.

Teachers are asked to "explain that the fossil record has been interpreted differently over time (e.g. creationist interpretation)".
For example, CNN.com is reporting that, after an 11 million year absence for the fossi record, the Laotian rock rat has suddenly made its reappearance. IMHO, the only rational explanation is that God began missing his little friends and so re-created them.
Actually if it is taught in class that the theory should be dismissed then I don't mind that much. In fact, if enough arguments are given it might be good to educate people about it. That way they are sure to know the reasons why intelligent design is bollox. Many people wouldn't learn about it otherwise through unbiased sources.

Here's the thing about the UK. People here aren't really any smarter than they are in the US, it's just that they don't give a **** about creationism (or indeed, much at all). Maybe some people are foolish enough to think that creationism is true, but they don't really care and they won't go around insisting that it gets taught in schools. Fundamentalist religion doesn't have a hold here.
The list of published books grows. If you're curious to see what sort of stories I weave out, head to Amazon.com and do an author search for "Christopher Hartpence." Help support Candle'Bre, a game created by gamers FOR gamers. All proceeds from my published works go directly to the project.

I'm not clear on who exactly champions Creationism in England, or if anyone can really hold such a title?
Muslims?
I'm not really aware of their position on Creationism but wouldn't be at all surprised if it was essentially indistinguishable from that of the American religious fundys.
The US ok, I can live with that. But Brits. That's just too much ,you are Europeas! It dosen't matter that you don't want to be or that we don't want you anyway! You should be aware of the tragic history of religion in Europe that sparked off fundamentalism in the middle east with the crusades! Have learned nothing from our bloody colonial, intolerante war-acared past.
I can already see biology teachers going to happy camps...
I propose a Union-wide referendum on wether to kick the UK out of the EU or just send "peacekeeping" forces there to restore sanity.
But seriously:
A study indicated that 10% of Europeans belive that the Sun revolves around the Earth, should we put that into the school curicilum as well?
I'm not buying BtS until Firaxis impliments the "contiguous cultural border negates colony tax" concept.
