One should expect that people who live in the "post Galileo Galilei age" should be very shy to arrogantly put their theory up as the One True Theory and dismiss all other theories and ideas far from them, and requery that it should be 'forbidden' to publicly speak about it.
One should expect that true scientists would be very eager to speak about every idea and theory. To discuss everything with open eyes. To be very happy with everyone who dares to critisize their views.
Since that's science! Science should always challenge the existing theories and ideas. Science should always be open minded to new insights. No matter if these are laughable or interesting on first sight.
Galileo's theory was laughable on first sight.
Though the 'children' of Galileo now treat the Galileo's of our time in the same way as Galileo was treated.
Everyone who believes in any One True Theory and dismisses everything that challenges is not a scientist but a believer. Everyone is free to be a believer, but don't act if you're a scientist while you are not. You're not different then the 'scientist' in the middle ages. And inf act you'll be named a 'scientist' in the ages to come as well.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Ideas seem always idiotic from someone who disagrees with that idea. Remember, people thought that Galileo was a fool as well. Arrogance is not really a good scientific attitude.
But I agree that our schooling system is vastly superior to that on the 3rd world. Which doesn't mean that everything that is teached is true though. I hope you can see that difference.
I don't think there are that many Christians in Asia, anyway.
And there are many people in Asia, so even if a small part of them is christian, then that's still a lot.
Not to mention the fact that most christians in Asia are underground because of persecution.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

In the ME people were teached by the theory of creation and the earth-centred universe. Therefor people didn't accept it when people questioned this.
Now things are visa versa, but still the same. The majority calls those a fool that don't believe that what the majority has been teached.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

The church were wrong then and the churches that support creationism are wrong now.
In Gallileos time they had no scientific basis for dismissing his ideas and the position today is that there is no scientific basis for creationism.Space is big. Cybershy: a scientist uses scientific method to challenge existing theories. Scientific method involves an analytical level and an empirical level.
Creationism and intelligent design don't correspond to scientific method, because they rest purely on analytical ideas, which have no way to be empirically proven or disproven (it boils down to: "it's so complex it couldn't have evolved by itself, thus it must be the hand of God/an intelligent designer"). As such, they might belong to theology or philosophy, but not to science.
I'd like to add that scientists challenge established theories all the time, and that biology is a rapidly advancing science. So far, evolution is a firmly established fact as far as scientists are concerned, because it is a concept that is fundamental for their research (and it works), because that analysis corresponds to the available empirical data, and because no scientist managed to challenge it with a better analysis."I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident
"I never had the need to have a boner." -- Dissident
"I have never cut off my penis when I was upset over a girl." -- Dis
