Which makes this sudden turn into xenophobia so utterly strange. There is no rational reason to oppose this. None.

I've already stated the reasons why I opposed Dubai's takeover of six of our port operations even in light of other international companies from other countries who have similar ties with some of our ports.

I think that the US should do something for the UAE or Dubai to help make up for what happened to this deal as a show of good faith.

          I agree.

IIRC, those are: oppressive actions by the government against its own people & some questionable ties between some governmental officials and al Qaeda.

--However, the first is also found in China and Singapore and I just don't know how substantial your second objection is.

            My druthers:
I'd rather have US ports, as strategic facilities, operated solely by U.S. companies. No UAE, no China, no Singapore -- and someone told be a Danish company was also involved.

However, if for some reasons US control is not feasible, then I'd rather have UAE running our ports than China.

I'm sorry but I just don't get it. Why feel squeamish over furrigners running your ports, while you don't have similar objections when it comes to shipping companies? Those are the guys that sail potentially dangerous cargo into the US in the first place.

                    Yep!

The ports and shipping companies are one big intertwined nexus all sewn together and are impossible to pull apart.

We might as well not even trade if we want full security from the boogieman.

Does control of security and economical interests mean that non-Americans companies must not run USports and Americans companies must run other nations ports?
IMO,the States must always remember two things:they are the leading power and they are a democracy;and act accordingly.

This one falls squarely in the "tough ***+ies Life is unfair dept.". It's not bigotry- it's called self-reliance and prudence.

Bush and Co. have ratcheted up the fear for so long that they just happened to finally reap what they sow.

This was an act of democracy. King George was willing to go ahead with the port deal and not listen to what anyone else thought. Congress acted a lot upon pressure from their constituencies.

Although if Bush hadn't been so bull-headed and insulting with the deal, it might have turned out differently.

That the thing. If you call it bigotry, you should be able to support that claim. The problem with the race card is that many people often assume guilty until proven innocent. That's why it's such a common tactic, which then calls question to true acts of racism.
