Jesus Christ, you think the US is mad or something?!

17-0 over South Africa in the 4th Inning.

Griffey Jr. went 4-4 with two homeruns and 7 RBIs.

I remember back when he played for Seattle... he made the game look so easy - probably one of the best players I've ever seen in person.* Too bad he's had so many injuries over the years.

        * and that includes a certain ex-Pirate who hit a foul ball into my then girlfriends lap at a Phillies game back in the 80's

Hopefully today's game is a sign that the USA is finally ready to take this tournament seriously. It might be that beating from Canada is just what we needed to get motivated..

No - today was a sign that they were playing South Africa.

Next up: my son's little league team.

South Africa actually played decently in this tournament, considering their talent level. Did a lot better than China...

                Netherlands no-hits Panama.

Nice job by Shairon Martis - who honestly I've never heard of before.

What are the rules for this tournament anyway? The US-S.Africa game ended after 5 innings, and the above referenced Dutch-Panama game after 7.

I believe there is a pitch count mercy rule or something (blame it on the MLB owners)
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Pitchers are held to certain counts depending on the rounds. (The numbers are 65 for the first round, 80 for the second round, and 95 for the semifinal and final games, though a pitcher can exceed those counts in order to complete an at-bat.)

They also must have at least four days' rest after an appearance of 50 pitches or more, one day's rest after an appearance of 30 to 50 pitches, and one day's rest after two consecutive days of appearances of 30 pitches or less.

The mercy rule allows for the game to end if any team has a lead greater than 15 runs after five innings or 10 runs after seven innings.

Maybe they should be playing softball instead.
