You guys are geeks... I take notes by hand at lectures, and thus write a lot in cursive.

Here it is for the sake of comparison. BTW, if you read what he wrote, you'll see it's a draft of a refusal letter he sent to a charity solliciting him for money.

I only write cursive, I wouldn't even know how to write in print

The only thing I write in cursive is my signature (not the Monkey!!! one). I print everything else. I even write capital G's, S's, and Z's in print even if I am writing in cusive.

Bob and Tom (radio duo) were talking about how useless it is to know how to write in cursive and that it should be removed from the classroom and replaced with something even more useful...

I would of rather had more recess time.
pretty much the same as you. I never write in cursive. I think the original point was to write long papers quicker. But now since we type everything... What's the point. I haven't written in cursive since high school.

The handwriting is one thing, but the French isn't all that either.
I use a mix of both - it depends on the letters that make up the word I'm writing, and how easily connectable they are. (Horrible word, but connectable does exist. )
On the other hand, people think I'm weird because I write capital Ns in reverse (with the right hand side first, despite the fact I'm right-handed).

wait, it's ok to write the capital N from the right side, if you're left handed? I always presumed it's because the same form stands for "M" in hebrew, which is written from right to left.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but the answer seems to be no. There is only one correct way to write a letter, with little to no deviations allowed.

When they taught us to write cursive, half the letters came with a "pick your variant" sign.

You're German, right? That's funny, because I've found out that most Germans I know all have strange handwritings.

I guess that's the German way: precision with trains, free for all with handwriting.
