Does the term Arcology actually exist or did you invent it on the spot? I've never heard of anything like that. Pics?

SimCity 2000. That's what taught me about them.

Well, Call to Power 2 had arcologies and they were cool.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

I don't particularly care. I like being outside

I get to be outside every day as it currently stands

I have a window which I can open up and look outside all the time

Thanks, but no thanks. The idea of an arcology is stupid.

I personally have no ambition to live in such an awful place, and I think most people would agree with me.

                  What a ****ing idiotic idea.

                    Why would anyone NEED arcologies?

Thanks for the link. Having examined the matter, I dismiss the idea as inhuman.

Oh no. The idea is very human - if you're talking about colonies on small planets/moons/no breathable atmosphere.

But this has no place on earth.

I like the technological challenge in it. Can we make a building 2 or 3 or more km high - and make it so that it is affordable, maintainable, practical and even - liked by its inhabitants? It would sure be interesting to try.

I hate the outside. I'd love to live in one.

Yeah, because covering every square inch of land with suburban sprawl is so human...

While mega-arcologies are obviously unfeasable, we should be building up, not out. I wouldn't mind living in a skyscraper at all, if it meant that I would still be able to visit the state parks of my childhood, and eventually so that my children could enjoy them as well.
