Many of them choose to grow other crops, even if they may not be as suitable as wheat, just to get out from under the thumb of the Wheat Board.

That's the whole point of a production cartel.
It restricts production to increase prices. When members of the cartel violate their quotas the cartel becomes ineffectual.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

The Wheat Board serves as both a stabiliser and a production cartel in the grain market. It both increases prices and takes away some of the short term risk to producers.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Also, as far as stabilisation goes, if farmers can sell at a stabilised price, but also can sell outside the Board, then the Board simply becomes a giant charity. It pays higher-than-market prices when prices are low and doesn't receive any wheat when prices are high.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

You really don;t have a clue, do you?
Tell me how the Wheat Board restricts production?
Where are the quotas?
This might have been phased out some years ago, but I thought it was still operating as a cartel.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Solution to our problems:
Stop subsidizing farms, give everyone $400 more!"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

If they get to choose to sell either to the Board at stabilised prices or to an outside party then the Board loses at both ends, and the shortfall will be made up by the average taxpayer.
What sort of Wheat Board do you envision, NYE? What would its role be?12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET
