You meant extension? Plugins are things such as Flash player. Extensions are things such as Flash Blocker

A plug-in is installed by a user downloading and running an *.exe. Needless to say, if a user does this, the horses have already bolted and the fox has left the chicken coop.

An extension is installed by clicking on a link and then accepting a browser dialog. Same as a widget or skin or menu layout or a number of other things in Opera. Rather simpler. :P

To install an .XPI from an external source (non-Mozilla), they need to add the site as one allowed to install extensions (complete with a warning that the site and the extension are not verified). Then they need to install it again from there. During the process they are also displayed another warning for non-digitally-signed extensions.

I don't see how this is much different than installing an .EXE. In fact, it's easier to download an .EXE and choose "Run" when it's done...

What you're doing is spreading FUD, which is shameful. Opera supporters are nearly as grating and annoying as Mac supporters. Opera and Firefox are both succeptable to spyware and malware if the user is a moron.

The difference is Firefox is a better browser because it allows extensibility.

You probably could, you're very good at that, doing philosophy and all.

Nope, plugins. Flash, media player, etc, no longer work in 1.5.

I wouldn't know. I haven't tested 1.5 on Windows because a couple of extensions I have isn't up to speed yet. Though it works fine on Linux. At least Flash and Java work with FF1.5 under Linux.

Works for me as well (on Windows).

FWIW, Flash works with FF1.5 on my Windows box too.
