Not really, there's those handy busses driving between terminals.

I see... But could you actually get into a terminal (especially 1,2,3 vs. 4) where you're not supposed to be?

Gee, I didn't consider that since at O'hare there's 1 dedicated international terminal and 3 domestic only terminals. I guess that wouldn't work across the pond.

Said from someone having a 11 hour layover in Amsterdam Schiphol, be sure to have your laptop and a wi-fi card with you. Add a book and drinks.
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Anyway, if anybody is willing to give it a try, I'm willing to have to go back through customs as long as it's allowed.

I'm finalizing plans for a buisness conference in Cairo and due to our corporate 'find the cheapest stinking price' airline ticket policy, it looks like I'll have a 6.5 hour layover in Heathrow.
Any ideas for filling the time?
Serious and not so serious suggestions will be considered.
The last time I did this, I spent the night in the terminal sleeping on my bags.

As soon as the check in opened, I went through and proceeded to the nearest bar, where I got absolutely trashed.

That is the main intercontinental terminal (although there are exceptions).

Good. I hate flying into obscure terminals and have to transfer to a main one.

I just talked to a buddy of mine, and he said that the only way I could leave the terminal area would be if I claimed my luggage. Does anyone know if this is true.
If so, I doubt I'll be leaving the terminal and would make it difficult to meet for drinks.

I doubt you would need to claim your luggage if its being throughchecked. It would seem silly to collect luggage only to check it in again straight away - the check-in being outside the passenger areas of the terminal.

Don't quote me though, common sense and security often don't go hand in hand. Just ask your flight operator, they must have been asked this question many times before.

My bud said it was a security regulation. I was just wondering if any of the many more regular world travellers would confirm or deny this practice.
