Getting the whole end of world thing wrong is a bit rubbish though, you've got to admit as it was his magnum opus of predictions

But I still think that the clash of civilizations won't occur. The Iraqi debacle and the current demos make it clear to the west that the Muslim world is a powder keg that doesn't get policed so easily, and that a sensible approach is needed.

The US and UK have just given a bone for the Muslim world to chew, by not supporting the Danes (despite the fact that Denmark is a loyal ally of them). They have also taken a more subtle approach to Iran's nuclear strategy than 4 years ago, and they have shown quite a bit of restraint after Hamas' victory.

The way I see it, it is becoming obvious to most western powers that the Muslim world can only change from within and not from without. It might well result in fewer humiliations dealt to the Muslim world in the coming years, and as such to the beginning of healing the wounds between the East and the West.
I would hope you are right Spiffor but I see another event in even greater magnitude than 9/11 occuring plunging the struggle even deeper than either side will be able to get out of until a whole lot of blood is shed.

Course if that event does not occur then things will go down the way you envision.

          This seems the appropriate thread...

Castro invites Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Cuba

          Agence France-Presse

          Havana, February 8, 2006

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accepted an invitation to visit Cuba from President Fidel Castro, in gratitude for Cuba's support of Iran's nuclear program, the official Granma newspaper said on Tuesday.

Ahmadinejad accepted the invitation in Tehran from Cuban Ambassador Felipe Perez Roque. During his visit, the Iranian leader will attend the September 11-16 Non-Aligned Summit in Havana, the daily said.

On Saturday in Vienna, Cuba, Venezuela and Syria voted against a resolution of the International Atomic Energy Agency to refer Iran to the UN Security Council over a nuclear program the West suspects is weapons-oriented.

The Iranian President recently publicly thanked Cuba for its "dignified and principled" position during the IAEA's special meeting, which ended in a 27-3 vote in favour of reporting Iran to the UN council.

Separately, Granma announced that Iranian Parliament President Ghulam Ali Haddad Adel has accepted an invitation to visit Cuba from Cuba's National Assembly.

          So...the Non-Aligned Summit. Sounds fun.

I was way off on the, "this will be the greatest manhunt the world has ever seen" to get Bin Laden.

I made a big mistake there. I thought competent people were actually in charge.

Or maybe the whole thing is just a long episode of 24. You know staged crap and all that.

Oh by the way we never confirmed ANY Al Queda terrorists were in the building that was bombed in Pakistan a couple of weeks ago that killed innocent civilians.

Best we had was a "maybe," and "they were in the area."

Yeah and I was in Florida a few weeks ago so carpet bomb the place maybe you'll get me.

                    what ever happened to Anthrax?

I remember in the 90's there was an Anthrax scare in my city. Turned out the 2 guys had a cure for Anthrax or something, not actual Anthrax.

the delivery method may be too complex.

Anthrax is still around. Luckily Anthrax seems to be mostly a European issue right now.
