  • A Solicitation of Prayers/Positive Thoughts For Boann

She's having a fresh wave of concerns.
If you know Boann, you know she doesn't bother people. Pretty nice woman.
Here's email that I just received. She needs some positive waves sent her way.
Could be worse, but could also be going better.
Whatever you can do is appreciated.

    hi friends,

blood tests showed sugar level of 360 they decide im diabetic and put me on daily insulin shots and im to test sugar twice a day. its down to fluctuating near 200
but not stable or down enough yet.

the ultrasound showed two masses one on each side of the thyroid

then they sent me for the thyroid uptake scan which showed a cold nodule on the right side which means that area of the thyroid did not take up the radioactive iodine normally. the radiologist recomendation is to have a needle biopsy.
cancer cells do not take up radioactive iodine as easily as normal thyroid cells
which means i could have thyroid cancer. though they won't know that until there is a biopsy done.

    thanks for your prayers.

Oh. That is bad news. I very much hope she will get positive tidings following the biopsy, and she will be in my thoughts..

You know, we really need her back here to help keep a certain poster somewhat at bay.

          Thinking of you boann.

Being diabetic isn't so bad though!
But I was diagnosed at the age of 2, so I imagine that it'll require a hell of a lot more change and readjustment later in life. Good luck, I know that you have the strength to overcome whatever might be there to test you.

I'll put her in my prayers. The good news is that even if it is thyroid cancer, most types respond well to treatment.

Yikes! I hope she gets better soon!

Though, as Duke said, being diabetic isn't that bad. Just hope the cancer responds well.

One of my buddies caught diabetes when he was 18. The worst thing was not the decease itself, but the suspicion of employers and such. He was refused to work night-shift in my company, until the other guys at the shift told the HR manager "we want him and no one else!"

He has adapted very well to being sick. But when he lost his right arm in a motorcycle accident two years ago, he was very close of dying from insuline shock when the nurses forgot him one night. But he survived, and is now back at work, driving a handicap-adapted forklifter using his left arm.

Sickness and accidents are not the end of things - keep going!!!

                      You're in my thoughts, Boann.

If you ever have any questions about Type II diabetes, feel free to ask. I might be able to help, as my family has experience with the condition. Know this, though: Type II is eminently controllable, oftentimes through exercise and diet adjustments ... so insulin shots may be just a temporary precaution on your doctor's part, but it depends on the individual. And the FDA last week approved insulin inhaler devices, much like those used by asthmatics.

Yeah my older brother has type one diabetics, since age 8 he has had it. He has a insulin pump, that way he doesn't have to inject himself with insulin 3 times a day. Plus they are having some success with pancreas transplants and the such. I wish you luck Boann.

My Dad has type 2 diabetes since his early 30's and has coped with it rather well. He's actually lost a good bit of weight in the past 3 years, from around 270 lbs to 200 lbs and the only thing he has to avoid nowdays is non-diet soft drinks and too much candy. Diabetes runs in my dad's side of the family, so I am definitely concerned about my own weight.

I can tell to Boann that the human body is a strange thing; you can be close to the worse and recover wonderfully as I did. She is in my thoughts.
