  • Danish embassy invaded

The last thread got locked up, so I don't know if we can continue this or not, but if we can, let's keep it running and not like last time because this is a very interesting and important thing.

It says that 300 people invaded Danish embassy in Indonesia.

The also had a cartoon of their own:

They didn't get any further than the lobby. Then after some vandalism was committed there and the Indonesian guards could not make them leave, the Danish Ambassador invited 3 of the protesters into the embassy, which is located on the 25th floor.

They had a talk, and he informed them of the newspaper's apology for the drawings having caused offense, and of the PM's statement emphasising freedom of the press and freedom of religion, after which they rejoined their fellow protesters in the lobby - and after some deliberation left the building and dispersed themselves.

    Quite extraordinary, really.

Oh it's worth nothing that they didn't harm anyone, they invaded, trashed the place and then the cops or someone were able to get them out of the embassy.

The same article says that a newspaper in Jordan also published few of them pics and run a theme saying that be reasonable, which hurts Islam more, this, or the pictures of slitting a throat in live tv of an abductee, suicide bombings etc. We'll see what the response to that will be.

It seems to me that there are some radicalists wanting to pick up a fight, and this is their excuse. This is too bad, now I truly have to revise and think if I will go through for example Indonesia in my SEA tour. I hope things cool down.

Also a section of AQ has reported to be ready to strike against Denmark in days soon to follow.

Winston, right, seems to me it was more like an angry mob type of thing, wanting to make some headlines to feel good about the action or something.

I saw this on the news a few hours ago. Gave me good laugh at least. Stupid protestors...

Former Iranian President Rafsanjani, who is now an Imam, has condemned the drawings at the Friday Prayer, but at the same time he called for "displays of our calm and merciful side, our kindness." He continued, "it is sufficient for us to consult the Koran."

Who is now an Imam? He's been a cleric since long before he was prez, and as such presumably served as imam (prayer leader) all along.

This is getting rather interesting. The Danish PM says again (I guess yesterday) that he and the gov can not apologize for this. There's just no way. I mean this would be trivial for most of us of course.

Maybe this is something you talked about in the other thread, but it's an interesting setup. On the other hand you have this big group of people who are offended and by whose rules you can't even draw the picture of the dude, rather alone make a cartoon. Now, that's a huge no no in their world and reality. So many of them must now think that so they did the pics. Now why can't they apologize for it, is it really that difficult to apologize? Just say sorry, that's all. And then you get officials saying there will be no apology coming, it's impossible.

The magazine did apologize. In our world and reality, we think why the hell should the PM apologize for something a private magazine did. It's not our business, it's just not in our scope. And where as the rules of Islam are important for muslims, the rules of our laws and the idea for democracy, that many of us see as the mother of freedom, the most important thing, are important to us. Scary enough, important enough to fight for. Of course this is not where it's going, fortunately I hope.

                      All this, over a cartoon.

                      Imagine that.

I assume people now know that other newspapers/magazines around europe are reprinting the cartoons?

I don't know how it could be missed.

This is also interesting setup for a debate if an integration of muslim communities can happen in Europe, since this kind of thing will happen in here, and in every country that has the same values. Or will this be a source for further outrages in the future as well. I don't see this being the last thing that will upset people of faith, so I see these things happening in the future as well. Then again, the communities in Europe would be more moderate in general I'd assume, or they would really have a bad time living in here, with all these things, mass boozing, porn etc.

You know, according to Islam this is the year 1427. Which means they still have another 109 years before Reformation.
So don't expect this crazyness to end any time soon.
