Still can't sleep. Maybe I'll doze off if I drink enough gin and tonics...
Watched all of the DVD. Still not very good, but I can see the potential... The special effects, however... Its like they did them on PC's.Let us be lazy in everything, except in loving and drinking, except in being lazy – Lessing

B5 was IIRC a pioneer in using 3d computer gfx (Lightwave generated) on tv in a time when Star Trek still was mainly done with conventional fx (models etc.). Bear in mind that it is no match for today's shows like BSG, but the comparison is highly unfair, since at that time cost and performance of hard- and software was a completely different factor, esp. for a tv show that used cgi on such a large scale (not for cinema).Blah

First series or 2 were pretty poor, and make me cringe if ever i see them repeated, but once the shadow and psi core wars kicked in it's still the best sci fi thats held my interest since every show doesnt end with somebody just re-routing power to some part of the shipLearn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I agree, Babylon 5 is pretty lame. Crappy plot, crappy acting, crappy special effects. Just on the whole quite a terrible show. In fact now that you just watched that whole crappy DVD you should just throw it out. I mean, what if someone respectable saw that you had a Babylon 5 DVD in the house? They'd just laugh at you and assume you've got no taste in TV. Yup, get rid of it. In fact, I'll be so nice as to help dispose of it for you. I'll PM you my address, just send it my way so you don't have to deal with that crap.
PS - If anyone has any of the other seasons they'd like to dispose of, I'll help you out too....Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

But it was 1994 technology, and cheap at that. Put the same fx budget on miniatures, you get one nice Starfury, though without paint.
I think, the Starfury fighter game, "I've found her", should have about as good graphics...
Legend of the Rangers, while sub-par, has much better fx.I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

The outstanding feature of B5 is that the storyline was created whole, as opposed to the episodic nature of most other televised SF series. Unfortunately, this strength is missed by those who just drop in for one or two shows - like any soap opera, it requires the viewer stick with it front to back.
It return you get phenomenal character development; while the Narn G'kar is by far the most interesting, in my opinion, most of the major characters also evolve significantly.
It has one of the better backdrops of any SF series. There is no comparing the clearcut good guy/bad guy setups of shows like Star Trek/Star Wars with the slow reveal and conflicting nature of B5's movers and shakers.
I also think season three is where things really pick up. Unfortunately, due to a wrangle with the network the fourth season was rushed. Unsure that there was going to be a fifth season, the author had to advance the conclusion by an entire year. It sucks when such a finely planned story was botched by network nitwits.
In short - stick with it and you will be rewarded. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power.
