Only a moron of massive proportions would dare maintain that Sponsorship was not one of the two greatest scandals to ever rock a government in this country. Simply look at the results in Quebec if you think this is wrong.

If it was good enough for MacDonald to go down, it sure as hell is good enough for the Liberals to sink for a few years.

1) they got a minority
2) they got less seats than I thought they would
3) the NDP increased their vote total and seat count
4) the Conservatives won seats in Quebec
5) the Bloc lost a significant share of their 2004 vote count, and lost some seats

All in all, it worked out better than I'd expected.

Particularly for the NDP this is an important election with strong growth that puts them in position to develop into a contender.

The election works out well. Canadians give the boot to the Liberals, teaching them a lesson, while keeping the conservatives on a short leash. Harper won't be able to push through his crazy ideas. He'll have to act responsibly.

The only question is how long before the Conservatives self-destruct. I give them 18 months.

I'd love to see a campaign of Harper vs Belinda. It would be good TV, and perhaps ten years of no Liberals.

The next campaign is going to be old fashioned Grit vs Tory. The NDP will get buried, unless they can discover some bones from this Parliament to bring to people, and the Grits aren't gonna want that, so they will freeze Jack out if they are smart.

The Liberals will prop up Harper, quietly, til they are ready to pull the pin, then boom! Unless Harper is cleverer by half.

The NDP were big winners in this election. They held on to what they had, they went up in the popular vote, and they gained half again their seat count.

Yes, but they can't deliver a majority for a budget.

They were in the same boat last time, but there were two independents, and Belinda. It was a freak Parliament.

It ain't gonna go down the same, most likely. Even though I wish the Cons-NDP had won the 155 needed for Harper to have three parties to deal with, that did not happen.

Believe me, I wish the NDP could mount a real challenge to the Liberals on the left. That could only mean more Tory governments for a time.

From that POV, Harper is gonna want to lob softies to the Bloc and NDP to inflate the NDP without strengthening the Bloc.

Damn! Multiparty democracy gets confusing, really fast.
