Am I sick for laughing at the thread as soon as I saw the title?

Toxic shock syndrome secondary to stretococcal infection can indeed occur outside of hospitals. In fact it first came to public attantion when women using certain types of tampons began dying from it more than 20 years ago. The threat of rampant lawsuits forced the tampon industry to change the way they made tampons.

Thinking about this case I wonder whether the infection was contracted during birthing. Streptococcal bacteria generally grow very rapidly. It would be more likely for the infection to manifest within a few days, not nearly 2 weeks if the bacteria entered the body during delivery. It might be possible that she developed a very small abcess that initially was walled off and grew slowly eventiually breaking into the blood stream, but it's more likely that something happened in the weeks after giving birth. I'd like to know if she had persistent bleeding or pain.

              No arms and no legs?

              I'd rather not wake up.

I would become a porn star. You could do so many new positions.

How the hell do tampons cause the rapid growth of Streptococcus?

Isn't it Staphylococcus bacteria that cause this?
Anyway, my guess is that the bugs settle down inside the nice cozy tampon where they can live a happy life, feeding on menstrual blood while being relatively protected from the immune system

There are all kinds of possible infections at hospitals -- thats why proper precautions for surgery need to be followed.

It is possible but not not necessary for there to be negligence here. Bacteria is everywhere and sometimes infections occurr even if all proper preventative measures are taken. ( I once worked on a medical negligence case where a hospital was found negligent since the nurces did not notice or inform the doctors of a surface skin infection that should have caused them, to delay surgery-- The docs were not liable since the infction was covered and not visible in the area where they operated)

The OP is BS-- it seems she knew what was happening . . . Heck to be in hospital 12 days after a birt means there is something serious going on. For a vaginal birth you can be out in a day or two and even caesarians are out quicker than that

Gotta admire her energy. If I woke up with all limbs amputated, I'd be too depressed to launch any frivolous lawsuits.
