That could be part of the explanation, yes. A little similar to the way in which e.g. murderers and arsonists in prison are driven to prey upon people convicted of crimes involving pedophilia. That isn't meant as a direct comparison, but it could be an example of a parallel behavioural pattern. "They're different and certainly of less worth than us, ha-ha - best of all, they can't put up a fight - let's go get 'em!"

The death penalty is a great deterrent. I haven't heard of a single case of an executed criminal committing another crime.

When did middle class kids begin losing middle class values?

Feeling superior to those less fortunate than themselves is the distinguishing middle class value.

No, it's the distinguishing value of stupid people.

And the distinguishing value of Communists is twisting things to suit their personal political agenda.

Same goes for the upper class. The caste system in India is even worse.

That must be the reason higner castes were penalised more for the same crime . But yes , caste superioritism is a great curse to this day in the more out-of-the-way regions .

But the "old money" families of India ( the family industrial houses , like the Birlas and Tatas , and others ) did not ( and do not ) have this attitude .

Being completely ignorant of middle-class values , and feeling yourself superior to everyone else is the distinguishing characteristic of liberal arts professors and communists . . . . .

Are you sure that these kids are middle class?

Look at our country's incredibly high rate of violent crime compared to other industrial countries -- and yet, this country still clings onto the death penalty in some states.

Obviously it prevents the executed criminal from committing violent crimes again, but it doesn't stop others from committing violent crimes -- they don't think, "I can get executed for this, so I better not" -- instead, they are likely to go ahead and kill someone anyway, whatever their motivation is.

I'm sure more than one person was deterred. How do you get statistics for that?
