Are people who believe in the Death Penalty by definition Evil?

I see no inherent issue with legalizing it.
although the executioners should all wear santa hats like in Sava's pic when they flick the switch/pull the handle/er inject the toxin/umm.....cut off the head etc
'The very basis of the liberal idea – the belief of individual freedom is what causes the chaos' - William Kristol, son of the founder of neo-conservitivism, talking about neo-con ideology and its agenda for you.info here. prove me wrong.
Bush's Republican=Neo-con for all intent and purpose. be afraid.
and I don't mean to threadjack... but these issues are connect in a big way...
death penatly - justice reform - war on drugs
it is all a part of the problem... even gun violence and gun control is related to these issues...
I get so frustrated when talking about these subjects because I don't forsee any changes to America's policies in the next 25 years.
And to be frank... for the people that support the NRA and such, America could probably get away with having more liberal gun laws (liberal as in "free") if a lot of these other problems were addressed. Many of the problems associated with gun violence are symptoms related to drug crime and would probably go away with justice reform/legalization/etc. Which would allow us to re-examine our gun laws... i.e. allow the gun-lovers to have their guns, and allow major cities to ban guns if they wanted to make the liberals happy.
We could have a nice balance, compromise, lower crime, people could have their weed , and we could start helping drug addicts instead of locking them up...
Also, we might seriously be able to address the problems related to the death penalty so that murderers get punished and the innocents are not getting locked up (or put to death)!!!
with the development of DNA evidence, you really aren't seeing innocent people being put behind bars... although everyone in prison claims they're innocent
That's exactly the same logic that was used to keep the Guildford 4 and MacGuire 7 locked up, decades after the real bombers had confessed.
You see, DNA evidence is not without weaknesses. Contamination in labs, or the planting of evidence can still throw it.
The problem is that most people don't go by the preachings of philosophers for knowing what is moral. For most people, morality is a gut feeling of right or wrong. When we are wronged, we have a gut urge to "get back" at who wronged us, executions are an extension with that urge to give retrobution. The fact that most other western countries have abolished the death penalty probably means that those who have tried to rationalize thier gut urges with moral arguments (*points to Sava*) have, for some reason, done better making thier case in the US than elsewhere.

That same argument could be used for all punishment... not just the DP.
And BTW, I didn't claim that lefties are more bloodthirsty than others, but that a larger number of them let their true character shine through when political opponents are stricken with serious illness or death.
You found what -- three or four lefties who posted callous disregard for Cheney on the first page of the Cheney thread, and then you blow it up by changing the few posts to "a larger number of them."
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

and again... this would be a flaw with the JUSTICE SYSTEM in general... abolishing the DP would not fix this.
And with decades of appeals at the disposal of someone who was convicted... there is more than enough of a checks and balance in place to protect against innocent people getting convicted.
No system is perfect.
But you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Go to the Democratic Underground forums... you'll find more than enough lefties/liberals/democratics who wish bad things to Bush and company.
Many of those same people would no doubt be against the death penalty.
I'm impressed with your census research, Sava -- you go to one website and take it that it represents all liberals.
Then, after spending five minutes doing your entire census research on liberals by scanning through that website, you conclude that a substantial number of lefties boil conservative children and then eat them, right?
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
They are "just" misguided
and they are definitely no christians as it violates the 6th commandment
