  • Best musical scenes in non-musicals

Here I'm talking about movie scenes involving the characters singing and/or dancing, whereas in the rest of the film they are acting otherwise rationally.

    For instance:

"Twist and Shout" from Ferris Bueller's Day Off
"Age of Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" from The 40-Year Old Vigin
    "Tiny Dancer" from Almost Famous
"Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" from Life Of Brian
"Every Sperm Is Sacred" from The Meaning Of Life

There's that weird little bit in Donnie Darko where, for about 45 seconds, every movement is done in time to Tears for Fears' Head over Heels.

Mary singing "Set Up 'Em, Joe" on the old Mary Tyler Moore Show was a classic.

"Puttin' on the Ritz" in Young Frankenstein

                "Bohemian Rhapsody" in Wayne's World

The climactic performance of "Man of Constant Sorrow" in O Brother Where Art Thou

The cast singing "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" in the final episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

Cybil Sheppard's performance of "I Told You I Loved You (Now Get Out)" in the black-and-white episode of "Moonlighting"

All Simpson musical numbers, but especially "Who Needs the Kwiki Mart?"

I'm sure I'll think of more...

I was going to mention this, but couldn't remember the name of the song.

                              "Roxanne" in 48 Hours

I suppose The Blues Brothers counts as a musical, right?

And then there's the finale in Zatôichi. Not to mention, say, the ryhtmic ploughing of the farmers.
