Seriously, though, any trace of Germany has long since left these shores.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

In what sense? Many areas throughout the country are populated by German-Americans (as the map shows). There are hundreds of towns with German themed festivals. Sure, the link is becoming attenuated, but there is still some German-Americanism left.

Sadly, American beer has lost its German roots. Thank the anti-German propaganda of WW1 and Prohibition for the sad state of American beer. The Macro brews are complete crap, and most of the Microbreweries focus on English style beers (IPA, Porter, Brown Ale, etc.) I've yet to find an American German-style beer that comes close to the quality of real German beers.

Not quite. In 1917, the Germany was planning on renewing unrestricted submarine warfare. Believing that this could draw the U.S. into the war, the Imperial government sent the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico. It proposed that Mexico should ally with Germany and attack the U.S if the U.S. declared war on Germany. Mexico would be given Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona at the end of the war. The telegram was intercepted and decoded by the British, and it helped stoked the pro-war sentiment in the U.S.

Are Italians classed as latino or white?
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

You must have some really crap microbreweries in your neck of the woods. The best local microbrewery in San Diego, Pizza Port, does all kinds of beer from Bavarian Lagers to West Coast Pale Ales though they are most well known for Beligian style beers. They do Beligian style beers so well for so long that the King of Beligium actually made them an honory member of the Beligian Brewer's Association (the only nonBeligian Brewer to ever be so honored). I can think of at least a dozen other local microbreweries (From places with nationwide distribution down to little places that only sell their beer in their restaurant/brewery) and they make every type of beer under the sun. They're great and win all sorts of awards in both domestic and international beer festivals.
