I still think that Cooley thrived because he was often overlooked. Plus, the 3TD Giants game kind of inflated his stats. Don't get me wrong, he seems like a tough, clutch player who tended to get the tough first downs. However, I don't think that he'd be considered a full fledged threat. I'd compare him to the Steelers' Verron Haynes.
      Erm, why?

      Verron Haynes:

74 attempts for 274 rushing yards, 3 TDs
      11 catches for 113 yards, 0 TDs

      Cooley:

      0 rushing attempts
      71 catches for 774 yards, 7 TDs

Maybe they're built similarly (although Cooley is faster) but they could not be used more differently. Cooley is also quite clearly better.

Similar in that they are more the dependable, tough first down machines (Cooley through the air, Haynes on the air and ground) than the gamebreaker. Cooley is featured more prominently in the Skins' O, and he did have one outstanding game, but he seemed to get shut down as soon as other teams started to pay attention to him. That's been my impression of him thus far. If you disagree with that assesment I'll defer to you, as you have watched the Skins more closely that I have. I'm not trying to take anything away from Cooley. I like him as a player. I just don't see him as a threat on par with Moss.

        • MY DREAM COMES TRUE!!!

DICK JAURON WILL COACH IN THE NFL AGAIN!!!

Report: Jauron set to accept Bills' job
Denver's Kubiak will take over in Houston

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Former Bears coach Dick Jauron was in Buffalo and preparing to become the Bills' head coach Sunday, a person familiar with the decision told the Associated Press.

Reached on his cell phone, Jauron told the AP that he was in town but declined comment.

Hours after the Broncos lost the AFC title game to the Steelers, the Houston Texans called a news conference to announce they will hire Denver offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak as their head coach.

It has long been expected that Kubiak, a Houston native, would succeed the fired Dom Capers. However, under NFL tampering rules, the Texans could not comment on or finalize any moves involving Kubiak until Denver's season was over.

A person with direct knowledge of the Bills' situation said Jauron arrived in Buffalo to finish up some contract details. A message left with Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold was not immediately returned.

In five years (1999-2003) with the Bears, Jauron went 35-46, including a 33-19 loss to the Eagles in his only playoff appearance in the 2001 season. He was the NFL Coach of the Year that season, following a 13-3 finish.

The Bills play the Bears in Chicago next season.

Jauron spent the last two seasons as the Lions' defensive coordinator and went 1-4 this season as the team's interim head coach after Steve Mariucci was fired in late November.

Jauron began his coaching career as a Bills defensive backs assistant in 1985 before spending nine seasons with Green Bay. He was the Jaguars' defensive coordinator for four years before taking the Bears' job.

Jauron will take over an underachieving Bills team that missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year—Buffalo's longest drought since the NFL merger.

          • Texans have basically signed up Gary Kubiak to be their coach.

edit: It appears the article states that.

                • As far as I can tell, no minority candidates have gotten HC jobs, interestingly enough. Doesn't matter from a football perspective, but I assume someone will make a deal out of it.

                    • Btw, the Dolphins coaching acquisitions are looking impressive. They hired Mike Mularky as OC and Dom Capers as DC. That's going to be a very nice looking team once they get a competent QB down there.

Doesn't really count. He just shifted teams.

                        • Dom Capers as DC? Texans had the worst defense in the league this past season. It got worse over time too. The expansion year it was 11th one week. 11th! And the defense ended up giving the Texans a win in which the offense only gained something like 52 yards.

Dom Capers is one of the best DCs in football. Remember "Blitzberg" and the Zone Blitz? Yeah, that was Capers.

And his Panthers teams of the mid-late 90s were known for their defense. In between the Pathers HC job and the Texans HC job, he was fabulous as a DC for the Jaguars.

                              • Great coordinators don't always do great as head coaches.

Look at Ray Rhodes, who never had good defenses while a head coach, but has always been a good DC.

You could have said the same thing about Belichick before he got to the Patriots. He was crap with Cleveland, aside from one year.
