French ? Somehow I think that the french king was quite releaved when the normans went north instead of south

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

        • The Normans were Vikings. Case Closed.

So they were like French Vikings.

              • They conquered land not only in France and England, but also in Souther Italy, Sicily and Syria.

Edit: "Onlay" might look like the name of some random Norman theign, but it doesn't exist.

To the Normans we owe not only many latin-based words and feudal principles (that we ditched later on anyway), but also that funny helmet with the cute bit to protect your nose.

Barely. You can say that about the Normans who took Sicily, but not the ones who took England.

                  • Quite the same stuff methinks.

But do tell me where I'm wrong, I'm going to take an exam about that in 2 weeks. (no irony)

                      • Nah. the Vikings were granted the county of Rouen in 911. The invasion was we-all-know-when, so that's plenty of time to develop culture etc.

                        Francophone Viking-descendant peeps I say!

                          • What's your point?

Even if they still did that, that'd just be some cultural heritage they neevr got rid of. The term Viking just isn't used for anyone who doesn't come from Scandinavia, boldly speaking. I'd even say it's an anachronism for the time we're talking.

                              • You put the virgin on the boat and set it on fire.
