Arranged marriages, yes. My ex GF is from Sri Lanka and most of her siblings were married through arranged marriages. She describes it as kind of a dating service. Everyone in the family is looking out for prospective spouses for everyone else.

The woman in this article is not talking about arranged, but rather forced marriage.

edit: i don't mean to say that the fact that the marriages are arranged contributes to the longevity. It probably has more to do with the culture, if that is the case.

...and to add to that, the offending family members in this country should be prosecuted...I believe the sentence for abduction is a lengthy prison spell...

I think that it definitely IS culture. A person that freely agrees to an arranged marriage is also a preson that will likely stick by that marriage if there are cultural taboos around divorce

The Brits need to deploy the famous "00" squad. That will teach the blighters a thing or two.

I wonder how soon we'll be seeing retributions in Britain?

Here too. They often let the youngest (minor) son carry out the "mission" since the adults have to fear a more serious punishment.

Culture can be changed, so "permanent solutions" are not required. Perhaps comments like mine (which you quote) will slowly begin to move the humiliation from being triggered by anything which displeases the extremely spoiled male class in those societies to those who commit fratricide because of their own toxic culture and emotional immaturity.

                    You call that "culture"?
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

No, things like that can't be "changed." They must be repudiated and abandoned.

Look at Yugoslavia. The culture appeared to "change" in Tito's visionary modernization. But given the opportunity a significant percentage returned to the old hatreds. What before had been centuries of violence was doubled and compressed into a decade.

Then prosecute them as adults anyway, and prosecute the father/older brother as well. Can't happen without his say-so. Sometimes the mother is behind it as well, throw her in the dock, too.

The same way the get-away driver can be charged just as the armed robber, an accomplice or planner of a crime should bear the guilt equally, and one who abetts after the fact shares some guilt as well.
Or maybe just kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out.
Yeah, in bad taste. What else is new?

That's because the couple comes from the same social , economic , and cultural background . Everything just fits , so much fewer compromises have to be made .

Point is , arranged marriages require the consent of both the bride and the groom . Forced marriage is "arranged" only in the literal sense of the term . Indians don't marry off their daughters by force ( they may put a helluva lot of pressure on their daughters , but force is not used ) .

Maybe you speak of forced marriage in a region where there is no rule of law ? Arranged marriages are very different , requiring the consent of both parties , and Dis mentioned arranged marriages , not forced marriages .
