Well it was 20 miles in my case but I still lived by my own means, only visiting occasionally.

I was only 940 miles away...

BUt what does moving out mean? When I was in college, I was not paying for my own place- physical separation is not the same as "independence", if "independence" is the aim of moving from home. I know people living away form home, but who are financed by their parents. How "independent" is that? On the other hand, I am living at home, so I am not "independent" financially, but I have full independence in everything else.

So, is the issue simply financial independence, or another form?

Ive been financially independent since I moved out at 17, and had to work every day to keep up, while learning the hard way how to budget

I dont know if it was easier for me with my sink or swim approach, or if it would have been a smoother transition had I gone to uni and had the loan system to learn how to budget

in college I lived very cheaply

I never went out to eat or did anythign whatsoever (the only expenses were books like 4 times a year and a computer gamea couple times a year)

              (I also worked 6-20 hours a week)

in graduate school, I haven't lived nearly as well (in my means)

basically I lived fine, until I started living with my freinds

they wanted to eat out every day, to buy games all the time, to go out drinking often (and I spend $40+ every time I go out drinking), etc..

and now I spend way more then I make

              JM
(I think this last semeste rI have lived within my means though)
