I love the Berghoff; wish I could be there for the meet.

Still, this only makes me half as sad as the news that Marshall Field's is becoming Macy's. Field's, especially the downtown store, means Chicago to me more than any institution other than Wrigley Field.

On the topic of restaurants in Chicago:

When I was 13-15, I saw the Blues Brothers movie more than 50 times (literally). It was the first pirate video I owned, so I watched it almost every day after school.

Then about 10 years later, on my first business trip to the US, I found out that the Chez Paul was only 50 meters from my Hotel.

My buddy and I went there for lunch, but we behaved better than the guys in the movie. There were no daughters to buy anyway...

I'm up for it, but just like last time, it is a VERY difficult trick to actually make it...

BTW, a week day would be a better ber for me...

I'll be coming into Chicago for a business trip the 19th-22nd this month. If something can be scheduled then I'll definitely try and get away from my business stuff for a Poly meet.

So, anybody want to try and put something together?

I fly into Chicago tomorrow; the only scheduled personal time I see on the schedule is from 6:30 to 7:30 on Friday and possibly some time later at night Thursday-Friday (there's events going from 7:30 to some undetermined time both nights).

I'm staying at the Intercontinental Hotel which looks like it's a few blocks away from the restraunt mentioned at the beginning of the thread.

                    I will show up.

But I am not about to organize this. I don't know everyone's schedule.

Intercontinental is a bit away, a long walk or a short bus/cab ride. (Berghoff is not far from michigan, but it is well south of the river... maybe a mile or so?)

Thursday i'm available after 5pm, and would probably prefer not too late, Friday i'm not sure (7pm is when I get off work, though not sure if GF is wanting to do something ... maybe I can drag her along). (I work a few blocks north of the intercontinental, at the Borders there.)

For me also. When I was a kid we used to sometimes go to Chicago for a long weekend and do our Christmas shopping largely at Marshall Field's. Some good memories there.

Hmm. Does Friday at 6:30pm-8pm sound like it works? I'd be there probably about the time ixnay left (about half an hour from work, ie 7:30, for me)... how busy is it on Friday, is it too crowded for that time to work?
