Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I'll stick up for Imran somewhat. I enjoyed the prequels as well, but Mark Hammil is only a marginally better actor than Hayden Christiansen. While Episode I was just all kinds of bad, I don't think II and III stack up too badly with the others. And the whole Ewok thing in Return of the Jedi was a kind of stupid worthy of Episode I.

The problem in the new ones isn't the actors! It's how they were used (abused). Christiansen is meh, but you're right - so was Hammil. But the characters in IV-VI were far better (Luke was merely ok, but Han & Leia really picked up the slack). The characters in I-III were terrible.
I never minded the Ewoks... yeah, they were silly. Very silly, even. But it had the whole "little good guys with sticks stand up to Evil Empire" thing to it, which you kinda had to buy into to buy the films at all anyway.
Yeah, TPM wasn't that good. Some great visuals though (they compare badly today, but stunning when release).
AotC and RotS were fun flicks though. Basically you have to remind yourself you are watching a Star Wars movie, an homage to the cheezy Buck Rogers films of the '50s.
Oh, and Ewan McGregor kicks ass..

Like I said, to each their own. I'm not going to spend much time analyzing why, but I hated all three prequels and still enjoy (most of) the original three.
Ep IV Rocked but pales in thelight of todays special effects
EP V Best of series
EP VI enjoyable.
Darth was THE Bomb, his mystique being unmasked doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't da Bomb back in the day.
Ohh yeah and Ewan McGregor kicks (Harry Potter's nice) ass..

I must say that George Lucas must´ve had something against DV. He totally butt****ed him in Ep III. That was the most unconvincing and outright stupid conversion to evil I have EVER seen on the movie screen. As far as I am concerned Ep I-III is just greedy revisionist propaganda aimed at little consumer monsters jacked up on sugar and bad cartoons.
I think George just lost his edge when making the right decisions ref his films, also he'd started to speak alot to Speilburg while making Return of the Jedi, so the rot had along time to set in in terms of making a 'kids movie' aimed at kids. Episode I-III, from what i saw/heard of them were just better examples of this than the origonal films?
Darth Vader is still the evil - although Grand Moff Tarkin could give him a run fo his money in the 'wanton destruction of innocent lives' stakes.

I think the main problem is that after so many years, and with the experience of the LOTR movie(s) in mind people simply expected much, much more from the new Star Wars movies, and they were right in expecting more, and that it is the major failure of Lucas that he couldn't deliver that much more. I admit I found esp. Ep II and III somewhat entertaining too as pure FX orgies, but after leaving those two there was always a strong feeling of disappointment about the movies as such....they are very like those first three, but with more excellent FX, just that I think what worked in the 70-80ies isn't enough for an audience of today. There's no real development, except fx-wise, but story-writing and acting haven't changed much. That would (may) be ok for a movie purely for children, but for most adults it is just weak. The New BSG shows much better what can be achieved if you re-make an old product from the same time and lift it to today's standards (and that with a much smaller budget, for tv).
