A Palestinian who has become a Swedish citizen was recently arrested in Prague on request by CIA for building a "terrorist training camp" in Ohio. While this makes perfect sense at first glance, you might consider what crime did he really commit?.
His brother, who also lives in Sweden, wants him released and says "His only crime is that he hates George Bush. Name one Swede who doesn't". The Swedish government hasn't asked for him to be extracted, as he isn't suspected for any crime in Sweden.
In Sweden, building an underground army is illegal according to several laws, and the crimes are called "high treason", "illegal corps activity", "possession of weapon" and similar. Those laws have been enforced to stop neo-nazis recently. But this guy performed his supposed crimes in the US, so Swedish laws don't apply.
But I guess the laws and culture in USA are very different. Building an underground army isn't illegal, it's actually encouraged by the constitution, right? Or why do all those local militias exist? Possessing guns is highly encouraged and some people even have machine guns "to protect themselves against the government".
I have not enough information to make a judgement in this particular case, but it raises some general questions:
What is a terrorist training camp and what makes it illegal to set up in the US?
- A paintball arena?
- An assault rifle shooting range?
- A steeplechase court?
- A muslim Koran school?
- A combination of the above?
