    Seems like you might consider starting him on Alphabet first... unless a sleigh ride qualifies as Horseback Riding... then again, he might be good at Pottery - the breaking part, not the making part!

      No need to teach Warrior Code, which is hard-wired to appear when the little terror becomes two years old.

        At the moment, he seems only to be good at 2 things. The first is guzzling down his milk and I won't mention the second since it would lower the tone.

        As far as warrior code is concerned, that at least seems to become obsolete after about 20 years. Banking lasts for ever.

          Congrats, RJM!

          We all think building civilizations is tough, but building a new person is a real challenge. Especially if he's going to live up to a name like Cormac....

            Congrats Gramps! I just hope you don't change your name "rjmatsleepers" is already hard enough to type (especially for us lazy types ), I would hate to have to type "grandparjmatsleepers" on a regular basis (though the kid is already a week old and I just just noticing, he is probably working on Monarchy already!! (a new king of the household I am certain).

              Thanks - feel free to call me RJM.

              I'm not sure about monarchy. At the moment I think he's more of a barbarian - sometimes difficult, but rewarding if treated right.

                Congratulations rjm.

                If the young lad isn't at expert in history, thanks to his grandpa's tuition, by the age of seven, then he obviously needs to study why the crooks/clads strategy might not have worked in the real world.

                  Thanks Duke.

                  Actually, his father is the military historian, so I will need to be careful about what I teach him. I start from the position that the best way to win a war is to avoid it in the first place.

                    So the real world tech path didn't put crooks and clads in the same timeframe - but the British Empire was built with 'Clads (and a little help from the 'ladies from hell' and their ilk) not too bad an analogy...

                      This has the makings of an off topic debate.

                      The British Empire was built by:

                      a) the navy's need for places to provide food and water;
                      b) merchants looking for goods and markets;
                      c) ordinary people looking for a new start in a brave new world;
                      d) politicians and military looking for conquest;
                      e) accident;
                      f) all of the above.

                      Discuss.

                      (Not really.)

                          g) and those mighty, mighty clads!

                          (I think that looks a lot better now )

                          Anyway, those were the "why"s of the Empire, not the "how"s.

                              The great thing about grandchildren is that you can hand them back when they start crying. And they don't disturb your sleep too much!

                                It's good to see the cycle of life continue. Here's a toast to many prosperous decades for your grandson, RJM.
