      • Today it is known as Qal'at Salah ad-Din, the citadel (castle) of Saladin. Its real name was Sahyun though, or frankish Saon, which as far as I know means simply: Zion. It is a bit funny to see "Mat'am Sahyuni", "Zionist Restaurant" in a country or even region where zionism - not without reasons - is regarded as pure evil to the point that one Lebaneese guy, notabene a guy who tried to deceive me and my friends and did, because we didn't see him though the start and later on it was too late - told me that zionism existed from the beginning of time, it is also known as masonry and it is the reason of all the schisms that troubled both islam and christianity.

Pretty much in the coast and mountains along the coast regions. But it's only the NW of the country.

I will NOT post pictures from my parties in my house.

                      and here:

There are at least two water reservuars (sp?) in the castle. You can see one of them in Saon 29 pic. When You enter and go along the city walls, it is in the first cornes. The other is in the walls opposite to the entrance I believe. There are signs anyway.

                        • Anyway, the core of the castle, that is the part on the right of Saon 42 pic, is told to be byzantine. There are also ruins of byzantine church next to it. But it were crusaders to really build the castle. They even digged a tunnel through the hill to make it less accessible, only leaving a niddle-like collumn to support the entrance bridge (Saon 8 pic). There's also a nice mosque (Saon 21) and other stuff, including the bedroom of Saladin.

                          • On Saon 46 pic You can see the last great battle that took place in this castle. This guy spent something like 20 minutes trying to get his donkey through this gate. In this part of the battle, the donkey succeeded, and both it and the guy landed on their asses when the guy let the line

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                              • Speaking of nature, the castle is largely covered with trees, bushes and flowers. There are a lot of birds and in general it is very nice. The forests around it are one of the nicest in Syria.
