Wasn't Albertson's a Mormon owned store? I wonder if a mormon is buying them.
And as for as whose buying them, all the newspapers have jumped on the bandwagon of Cerberus Capital, Kimco Realty Corp, and SuperValu. CVS is also negotiating for the drugstores.

Verto,
This may look like it's going to suck, but, unless the buying company is going to close the store that you work in, it'll have to keep some people on to run it. So there may be no interruption in cash flow or work experience for you. It may just mean an extra entry on your resume, going from Service Supervisor at Albertson's to Service Supervisor at XYZ Corp. Just try to be one of those people that they keep on. If they do close the store or you somehow otherwise end up out of work, don't hesitate to tell prospective employers that Albertson's trusted you to handle BAGS OF MONEY at 19 years old while in college.
Mrmitchell,
I don't think there are any Albertson's in LR. If there are, I haven't seen them. The LR grocery store scene is pretty well dominated by Kroger, Harvest Foods, and (of course) Wal-Mart Supercenters. You just don't see many Piggly Wigglys any more.

Yeah, it would be great if my store either stayed open under the name Albertsons, or was rebranded. But there's a lot of doubt about whether or not ANY Albertsons stores will stay open, and moreso for ours, since the Texas divisions have overall dropped in profit. I wish they'd hurry up and give us their "roadmap" so to speak, so we have some idea what's going to happen.

Around Berkeley we have several different types of grocery stores, and it looks like the problem with Albertson's is its just an ordinary supermarket at a time the market is fragmenting. They can't beat discounters on price, they can't beat specialty supermarkets on quality, and they can't beat the small stores for convenience.
The ones here at least are indeed sitting on some valuable real estate. In San Francisco, there have been cases of supermarkets being demolished and replaced by apartment buildings with a supermarket on the ground floor.Visit First Cultural Industries

One thing I didn't mention before is about 8 or so years ago Alberston's sold all their stores in my city to Raley's. But then they went ahead and bought all the Lucky stores (which were nicer imho). So they never lost much presence in my city.
They also own sav-on drugs I believe.

Since Safeway was mentioned, let me take this opportunity to say that Safeway sucks. We have the "Soviet Safeway" just down the block.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I have had a problem with Albertson's for some time that maybe a new owner can deal with, they are way to expensive for what they deliver.
I look forward to seeing if the new owner can do any better. If not, my wife and I have reduced our dependence on the Big A to about 5 items that we cannot find cheaper without a lot of effort. Eventually, we will though if things do not change.
