So you're not shy of sweeping and unsubstantiated generalisations then.

    • No I'm not shy of it, wether they like it or not fans of rival clubs have some pride in seeing a team from their league do well and are hardly objective viewers. And english football is ripe with the idea of the blood and guts, hard physical play is very admired and the stereotype of italian teams are of diving primadonnas that should be put in their place. This still lives on.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

Erm, so if English fans worship at the alter of blood & guts, what are they doing praising the Arse, who play fancy-dan foreign footie, with no Englishmen in the side at the moment?

If Barca slice someone apart with free flowing football, they rightly get the plaudits, especially if the victim is another superpower, like Juve.

Fact is, we Gooners have had a ton of stick from some of the blood 'n gutsers in England lately because our two first team Anglaises have had the unpatriotic temerity to be injured. See my rants at Taylor and Pardew earlier in this thread about the waves of anti-foreign bile they have unleashed against Arsenal.

                • An eleven-gun salute to The Arsenal, for disposing of a second European super power on their way to their first ever European Cup semi-final.

We certainly showed the Italian side a thing or two about their beloved 'Catenaccio', and this young back four have surpassed AC Milan to set a new eight-game record of not conceding a goal in the Champion's League.

There's something to be said for an early exit from the FA Cup after all, if more energy is available for a run at 'old Big Ears.

Congrats too for Villareal for disposing of another Superpower, Inter. The Arsenal vs Villareal semi final should see a lot of open, attacking play and free-flowing football. Whoever wins will have a huge prize in a dream final against either AC Milan or the hot favourites, Barcelona.

                    Ajax held the previous record.

                    Congrats though.

It's a pity Lyon didn't win, still good to see attacking teams making it this far.

                    • Ajax held the record for number of minutes without conceding. AC and Arsenal equally held the number of games.

                        • Have there been any pictures of the new CL trophy yet? Have they changed the design or is it just another copy of the old one (that is bolted down in the Anfield trophy room)?

                          • A copy of the old one, I believe. It was present at the draw for the quarter-finals, with Stevie G looking like he was about to nick it!
