Some good ideas, flawed execution.

To me it means Firaxis had put too much emphasis on the eye candy. They should have decoupled the graphics from the game, and let the players choose a low requirement "skin" if that's what they prefer.
Perhaps you should get a better PC, then you can stop worrying so much about the graphics and how much the performance is bad because your computer sucks. Then you can enjoy the game as it was meant to be played.
Sorry but that is the reality of gaming nowadays. Game companies are taking advantage of better hardware and making better games. Graphics and sound may just be parts of the game, but they fit like pieces of a puzzle with the gameplay to form a work of art so to speak.
Part of the evolution of gaming is how game developers are able to stretch the envelop with better graphics engine and better gameplay. They go hand in hand with making a better game.
Civ4 has both. Better graphics and better gameplay.
You owe it to yourself to get a better PC so you can enjoy both.
People with ****ty PC's are missing out.
And it's not as if Civ4 requires a monster gaming rig. It's not very hardware intensive. It runs fine even on my mom's Dell.
