I am still playing with the original version (UNPATCHED)... I don't notice any memory issues.

Maybe you guys just have ****ty PC's.

Well, maybe the memory issues are generally minor , but are magnified on poor PC's because they are so burdened to run the game under nominal conditions.

Plus, we all know that the recommended specs are set low because the game will load up on those PC's, but not necessarily run smoothly. Fact is, if you want to game, you need to buy adequate hardware. Firaxis would be turning off potential customers by setting requirements artificially high just because of possible memory issues the game might have poor PC's. Best to let them buy the game and give them a patch later after you have their money.

The only memory issue I have with the game is, according to the Missus, that I tend to forget that she is alive.

                      ACK!

My overall impression is Civ 4 is not a well written piece of software. For starters, it CtD'ed a couple of times upon starting up. So I see the memory leak issue is just a symptom to the underlying deficiencies, so to speak.

                        Some good ideas, flawed execution.

To me it means Firaxis had put too much emphasis on the eye candy. They should have decoupled the graphics from the game, and let the players choose a low requirement "skin" if that's what they prefer.

MY Pc is pretty good. Test your computer and you'll notice the leak. Play the game about midway through so that things aren't yet lagging but that lots of different stuff is going on in the game. Make sure you are not experiencing lag then leave the computer running and go to bed. When you come back 10-12 hours later you'll likely notice that the game is super laggy and takes for ever to do anything. Not one turn has passed yet some how the computer is running low on resources just because the game was sitting there over night.

Sure looks like a memory leak to me.

Sorry. I don't leave games running like that.

                                It's wasteful.
