Alberta program slashes wait times for surgeries

A pilot project in Alberta has slashed waiting times for surgeries, and the precedent it sets could influence the delivery of health services across the province and the nation.
      What?

LOts of opinions there for sure but I reiterate that as long as the feds don't do anything too silly , the average Albertan will be happy to sit back and live their lives.

Now if the feds go after the oil wealth, it could be hammer time.

As well a simmering issue is with respect to the Wheat Board. I'm not up on this topic but apparently farmers in Ontario can sell their wheat freely while a Farmer in the west is required to sell to this Board. Some western farmers have faced charges over this and it could probably be flamed into something big if a charismatic leader took up the cause

This must be the scary hidden agenda we were warned about.

Now - How about your plan Mr. Charest?

Well this Ontario boy doesn't think the feds should rape Alberta of their oil wealth. Alberta's needs should come first and then hopefully Alberta can share an itsy bit with the rest of the country.

as for the wheat. I guess you could start here.

Thats more than I have time to digest now but a cursory skim did reveal that western farmers are required to sell to the Wheat Board. The site gives detailed reasons for this and the reasons may even be correct BUT all I know is this past year there were a number of stories about disenchanted farmers, some of whom were charged for selling their crops to someone other than the Wheat Board

                • You know most Albertans really don't mind sharing the wealth, it's more the attitude that "we like your money, we just don't like you".

What you say is true Flub, but given enough time, and the proper leadership I'm sure I could see a seperate west.

Good for Alberta Glad somebodys actually doing something instead of talking.

I think these wait times depend on what kind of surgery it is.

My dad was diagnosed with 85 percent blockage in one of the arteries in the heart. 5 days later he had quadruple bypass heart surgery. Five more days and he is home. A VON nurse visits him every day. My god a medical success story in our screwed up medicare system.

God I hate it when i can't find something to ***** about.

Yeah it reminds me of back in the high school days when immature little kiddies would hate each other out of spite.

We are a pretty young country.

Well I don't hate alberta, my uncle lived near drumheller. I visited there with my parents when i was a kid.

Mrs flubber works in a cardiac ICU. She tells me that lots of people get their surgery within days or hours of being diagnosed . . . it just depends on the perceived urgency.

Its the same with emergency room wait times-- yes the guy with a sore throat may wait 18 hours to be seen but the chest pain person is seen right away

Plenty here too, I like when they all get together and block Highway 401 with their $100,000.00 plus dollar tractors. While the wifes follow behind in their $60,000.00 pickups.

No offence Max but it sounds like you are quite far removed from the farming life.

Exactly. Tell Mrs Flubber that I think she and people like her are societys true heros. They can't be paid enough. The quality of care in the cardiac ward was impressive.

Yeah I know. Its not that simple. I was exaggerating. But I have seen to many farming operations to know money can be made in farming. Infortunately some farmers are hurting.
