It won't. From time to time fervor might be heightened to the point where some ambiguous question might gain a scant majority but I think that financial reality would quickly set in. Quebec is a have-not province and while Quebecers might want to fly their flag at the Olympics etc . I can't see that winning out over a certain worsening of their economic position

Why would we ever do that? I think the US is an ok country but I would rather be struck repeatedly in the genitals than become a part of it. No offense intended.

I've given up. Our system is broken and unable to be reformed.
I cannot accept this. In the past their have been national governments that for a time enjoyed representation everywhere. The Mulroney governments were an example of this.
Things have become polarized and may remain that way for another 10 years, heck perhaps ebven longer but I do not accept that any of this is permanenent

The only acceptable conservative to central canada would be a Liberal (ie McKay). Harper is scary b/c he is a conservative.
I don't want two interchangable, yet virtually identical, parties. That was part of how we ended up here. As much as the left likes to vilify Mulroney, he was not a fiscal conservative either.

Flubber you live in Alberta, surely you've heard the building surge of western seperation. I can't see Alberta sticking around for getting booted around for another 10 years, can you?

Canada should be absorbed by a stronger nation just for sheer stability.
US expansion northward
That's the one issue most of us can rally against. The only thing worse than our leadership is yours.

I just don't see the people of Alberta, many if not most of whom were born in another province simply chucking the idea of Canada when things economically are going so well. yes there is a feeling of alienation but when everyone has a job and the economy is surging I don't think you would build up much fervour for separation.
anything like the NEP and I think Alberta would get so riled that canada as a united country would be doomed. Absent that, I believe affluence breeds apathy so as long as the feds don't do anything too obviously stupid, Canada will just chug along
