  • African Fighting(from the battle for Monrovia)

Images from the battle for Monrovia, Liberia, where use of iron sights is known to be strictly prohibited. Also prohibited are aiming, assuming a supported firing stance, and any common practice of marksmanship whatsoever. Hip-Hop/Rapper/Gangsta shooting stances are mandatory, the "Glock Foh-Tay" hold being the most popular. lethality is acheived by subjecting the target to a wide swathe of area fire, simliar to unaimed indirect artillery, or scaring the enemy away with gesturing and aggressive hip-hop style dancing while firing. Points are awarded for artistic effort, style, fearsome facial expression/vocalizations and blue duct tape.

Note perfectly executed flamboyant sideways-rifle "Glock Foh-Tay" running stance.

Amazing height and style on this one. Sure to impress the judges!

    "Yo Yo YO, Fo' Shizzle"

The "bring your buddy along" firing stance

Firing from the hip while putting on the best "Game Face" and bellowing like an Ox - always sure to make your enemy skeedadle!

The "Homeless street person" anti-aircraft firing position being executed with great precision!

Here we have a classic! The "prone Warrior " firing position - too bad the magazine spring has blown out from the bottom of his beautifully blue-duct-tape-taped jungle magazine setup.

Here we have Liberian militia demonstrating the "Soul Train" method of combat assault.

The Nautical theme is ever popular, as seen by this militiaman wearing the stylish Kapok life jacket.
Won't stop a bullet, but sure looks Boo-yaa!

This pair is executing the difficult "Phat Bammer Swagger" shooting stance.

The Phat "Batman Begins" RPG firing position is new but hot.

While this appears to be a well-rehearsed combat assault maneuver, this militiaman is actually trying to keep birds from crapping on his car. Note the feather duster in the left hand for effect.

This Militiaman executes the one handed high overhead blind shot. It is often used to indicate that "Da Brizzles over there".

And last but not least, these two are showing the proper way to fire a support weapon using the non-aiming duck-walk method, keeping at least five feet of linked ammo strung out from the weapon at any given time! Note the suitably awe-struck onlookers!

    ------

Hardened child militia soldiers greet each other near front line positions as the offensive continues.

A truckful of child soldiers prepare to charge a rebel position at a key bridge downtown, to smother the enemy with their bodies.

A militia commander leads his men in a withering attack on rebels downtown.

A young soldier attempts to reload under heavy incoming fire.

A Liberian commander, left, orders a reluctant young soldier to charge into battle.

A government militial commander fires a rocket at enemy positions, and then exults after his direct hit.

A government militial commander fires a rocket at enemy positions, and then exults after his direct hit.

Fighters turn away from battle and scream.

A young child soldier walks away from shooting while another taunts the enemy over the bridge.

A government soldier fires a burst at rebels. (The only man in Africa who knows what he's doing)

    Child Soldiers:

There is something funny about those pics, though. A company of ROTC students could tear through these morons like a knife through hot butter.

Suddenly it's obvious why African civil wars last forever...no one can aim!

Was this meant to be deliberately ethnically insensitive, or just run-of-the-mill bad taste? Haha, people are dying!

It's more of a mockery on African "armies" who seem to draw their training from "gangsta" culture.

I think those pics are funny. Then again not because what really happens there, but because I take it outside that content and just look at the pics.

The African rebel pics, formed from young people who put on some hilfiger look alikes is a continuing funny theme on many boards, Liberia is not certainly the first one, but proudly continues the tradition of raising hilarity among people who have served in the army.

A complete 'wtf is that' can be mixed with 'this dude expects to hit that target' 'what target?' 'live tomorrow?' etc..

Of course many of them are just posing for the cameras, however, those kids can't fight for real. It's just wild. You can't win a real army with that ****. But real African armies of course are able to fight like everyone else, these rebel fractions and youth gangs/units/whatever are mostly for.. I don't know what.

I like those pics adn find them funny.

But I know the reality behind them too. Child soldiering is not really funny in itself .. most of them are drug users, most of them have nothing else, are persuaded to join and child soldiers can also be very cruel once they stepped across the line of humanity.

But since I don't believe in warning labels for people who get offended easily, I say rock on!!!

Finding humor in a moment is one natural method of trying to make sense of the senseless. It's a coping mechanism to deal with the shear disbelief and depressingness of a situation. He's not trying to be an arse. The pictures are funny outside their context, but they do show the utterly bizarre and oh-so-pointless world of unending and needless cycle of violence on the African continent.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

also about that phat 'batman begins' pic, how come always they show problems in Africa, it's THAT dude with the rocket launcher. It's like he is a superman, he fights like years, in those same clothes, and always carries the rocket launcher. I don't get it? The way he boasts, I'd expect him to go down pretty fast.. maybe he is the real deal. The real rocket man.

Whoa! That's an extremely depressing pictorial report.

However, you do have a way with captioning the pictures, props for that despite the grim subject. Especially the one with the homeless anti-aircraft gunner.

Edit: For once, I completely agree with the observations made by DRoseDAR. Well put.

The reminds me of why European armies were able to establish colonies in Africa so easily, often in the face of African armies with comparable or even superior firepower, the standards of African marksmanship were horiffically bad, one of the more common firing styles was placing the but of the rifle on the thigh which usually results in the bullet going far over the heads of the enemy.
