I'm intrigued that people heard the explosion in Amsterdam.

They were saying the sound travelled so far because an atmospheric inversion meant the sound "hit a wall" about 1000mtrs up and so bounced back and travelled horizontally. Not heard Amsterdam, 100miles is the msot I've heard but still impressive I guess.

Lucky that it wasn't on a weekday but at 6am on sunday morning, so the industrial estate next to it was completely empty.

Where? When? Did I miss something?

It appears that I live just outside that big black smudge...needless to say, nothing woke me up, even if it managed to wake the Netherlands up...

The closure of the M1 is going to cause total and utter chaos being one of the major arterial routes in the country. I am currently trying to explain why to Ec the lion...

It seems unlikely to me that this was an accident, as police claim.

Will gas prices rise as a result?
No. This is a relatively minor storage depot.

And teh Conspiracracy claims yet another event under its umbrella.

Maybe it's tied somehow to Diebold voting machines in Ohio and early slave history in America!

BBC news claimed it is the 5th largest depot in the Britain, supplying 5% (10% maybe?) of Britains petrol, and something like 35% of aviation fuel, presumably due to its proximity to luton and heathrow.

Incidentaly BBC news claim the smoke is now blowing SW towards Heathrow

Sometimes, as that great sage Elvis Costello sang, 'Accidents Will Happen'.

It didn't take long for the reliable 'Oral History' network to create the rumour of a light plane crashing into the depot...

Hamburg is being shelled by the Royal Navy already; British Forces Germany are fighting a retreat towards Antwerp. Angela Merkel now has a mustache. Russia signs a nonaggression treaty with Germany and moves on Poland.
