I've tried marinated chiken today. First time I ever marinate something (a colleague gave me the idea, his wife is a master-marinater )

It's really easy, and it gives a nice and surprising taste

Yesterday I had field mushrooms pan fried in butter, chilli oil, garlic and mountain pepper, on toasted brioche with sour cream and chives, mustard cress and pimento stuffed olives.

Followed that with Algerian dates and some kaju rolls and a pot of masala tea.

This afternoon I'm going to have some tom yam noodles with pickled green peppers, pak choy, chestnut mushrooms and a poached egg.

Not at all, not at all...I'm just fortunate to live in multicultural London where 'ethnic' food is cheaper.

The kaju rolls and Algerian dates were both reduced items in my local Tesco's, following Diwali and the end of Ramadan.

The field mushrooms were also reduced, and I dearly love big meaty field mushrooms.

The mustard cress was 10 pence a punnet, so I bought two, because I love its pungent bite.

The sour cream and chives was on special offer, otherwise I could have made my own, but winter brings on occasional spells of lassitude....

The pimento stuffed olives were a snip in a local deli, as were the pickled green peppers.

The latest 'immigrant' food items to go on sale (from a sign I noticed on Friday) were Bulgarian, in a corner shop. Another corner shop is run by a Turkish family, and sells lovely pots of Turkish rose jam and fig jam, and large containers of Greek yoghurt, and fresh Turkish bread- next to the Jamaican hard dough bread and the brioche.

There's a range of excellent mini-supermarkets nearby, from the Mabuhay (Filipino) Market, to the Chinese/Vietnamese Market and the shop near the Ukrainian Church which sells Russian and Lithuanian food items.

Then there's the farmers' market outside Stratford Station on a Thursday, which last week was selling Greek cheeses, French cheeses and English and Scottish preserves, free range produce and so on.

The tom yam flavour noodles were a bargain- five different kinds of noodles with soup bases and flavouring oils for one pound.

the only 2 foods I feel I can cook are spaghetti and tacos. Although since I know the basic skills for those, I'm sure I could cook other similar foods.

I had some duck when I was out earlier in Bexleyheath, so I am just doing a quick cheese and chorizo toasted sandwich

Rice is as easy as pasta- you could always make pilafs.

Stir fry's take a lot of pre time, but ocne you are done with cutting, the cooking is easy.

but Bkeela was right- baking some chicken is eay, and baked chicken is great.

Fajitas are a nice alternative to Tacos, and they taste better, too.

I also enjoy Indian food. Its tasty and easy to make. I buy Patak sauces in glass. You just need skinless, boneless chicken breasts, diced. Heat a frying pan. Put some olive oil in the frying pan. Add the chicken and stir fry for five to ten minutes. Remove the oil. Pour in the indian sauce. Stir well and simmer gently for 20 minutes. Et voilà! Its easy, it tastes great and its good for you! You can serve it with white Basmati rice and vegetables.

Man, you don't have any respect for yourself, Dis, shoving rubbish like that down your own throat.

Cooking for yourself is easy. For starters, you don't need to make the dishes look good, just tasty

Don't be afraid to experiment. Go down to the local fresh produce market to see what they have. Freely mix veggies, fruits, meat, spices/herbs, and other stuff such as cheese.

Then add rice, spaghetti, mashed potato (make it fresh, don't use powder), etc.

If you don't like it, make something different next time.

Cooking is great fun - I just hate doing the dishes afterwards.

I need some help. I don't know how to cook, and I'm getting sick of all the food I eat. I can no longer eat TV Dinners. They taste horrible. And I'm sure I'll get sick of canned soup and sandwhiches eventually. What should I eat?
