They have their rifles "by foot" in that last picture, but of course you couldn't tell. Standard Garand 7.62 mm rifles in my days, later replaced by "M 75" semi-automatic 9 mm ones. And sabres, old Napoleonic ones.

Maybe that's why your Monarch tends to stay on a different continent most of the time.

Residence of the Governor General of Canada. As you can tell, our guys would never wear silly hats or outfits.

On 2 December 1985 I was called up to start my training as a voluntary conscript with the Royal Guards.

                      I'm sorry to hear that

                      Wait! voluntary?

It's a sign of the times that none of the replies in this thread include a reference to the Beatles. I don't remember seeing a "John Lennon's death 25th anniversary" thread either.

                        Today, i am officialy old.

                          Clever observation, Richie!

                          However..

That may be because he died on 8 December 1980, which would seem to hinder any 25th anniversary commemmorations, at least until Thursday..

Oh, and blasted be my new so-called Internet service provider. They managed to clutter up my connection and it won't be fixed until Friday at the earliest. This is as bad as trying to give up smoking, well almost.

Got a bit ahead of myself there... Local Radio host was plugging a show he's going to be doing about it next weekend. I just didn't hear the "next weekend" part and figured it was on the same day.

OK - I'll bite. Just who is the guy in the denim overalls, red shirt and beret, white gloves, and crazed expression? Never seen him before, give me a name and I'll Google it.
