so why are Arkansas schools still so bad then?
They only started a couple decades ago. This is a tremendous task for even the wealthiest to take.

No really, education in northwest AR (where most of the gifts are being given) is excellent, and the scenery there is beautiful, jobs plentiful, and its still cheaper to live there than anywhere else in the country. It's one of the best places you could live except for all the Republicans...

I hear there are still lucrative land deals to be had in Whitewater.....

If Wal-Mart goes down, it will because of their own business mistakes (if they make any). Not because of consumer or public pressure.

Retail companies tend to over-expand. Then they see losses. Then they fail. But Wal-Mart has not reached this point yet. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Other stores have come and gone.

The public is stupid. Most people aren't informed enough about Wal-Mart's business practices... the trading with China, the use of suppliers that employ child and slave labor, the massive fraud and overcharging "errors". The people who shop at Wal-Mart don't care about the politics. They care about the low prices.

The poll data is interesting... maybe more people are starting to wake up and pay attention. But I doubt it. For Wal-Mart to fail because of public outrage, it would require the public to STOP BEING MORONS... and that simply will not happen. It's impossible.

I'd like to be wrong. I really would.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Walmart delivers what people want - cheap prices. They do everything they can to make it happen. If people don't want to work there - don't. If suppliers can't meet the expectations and make the economies of scale work for them, then Walmart will buy elsewhere.

The market lives, while the inefficient and ineffective move to something else or dwindle and die.
So it's a bad thing that now we can achieve the same thing using fewer resources? Had we followed that logic we'd never have progressed past basic agriculture.

I'd rather not shop at Walmart, but I am so strapped for cash that it is the only place I can afford. The public isn't stupid, they go to Walmart because they want to make ends meet. The people working at low-paying srvice jobs don't have the luxury to pay a little extra to go to Ma & Pa store. Most of the people protesting walmart are the ones with enough money to shop elseware. I know a lot of people who would rather shop elsewere, but a low money supply dictates otherwise.

See! Walmart's efficiency allows people with less money to afford stuff they otherwise couldn't.

I think you misunderstood me - I'm all for it. The first sentence was meant as a replacement for the thread title, for those that have their panties in a bunch over this.

"Efficiency"such as instructing its employees how to apply for food stamps and government-provided health care?

You really have to add into Wal-Mart's prices the added taxes which go for government-provided social services to Wal-Mart employees, plus the loss of salaries caused by Wal-Mart's campaign to have its suppliers move their manufacturing jobs to China and India.

Wal-Mart's assault on middle-class wages using the siren's illusion of "lower prices" is the work of the Devil!

Oh please! Target has marginally higher prices and they supposedly do better by their employees. Or Hell, buy a lot of Ramen for food, or cut coupons. You are never forced to buy from Walmart to make ends meet.

Before Walmart how did people make ends meet? Could it be they bought less when the Ma & Pa stores were the only deal in town?

You just like your lifestyle (how much do you pay for your internet connection, pray tell?) and want to justify shopping at a place you 'abhore' by saying you can't afford anywhere else.

Walmart's low wages are just a part of their efficiency. A larger part is their supply chain.

plus the loss of salaries caused by Wal-Mart's campaign to have its suppliers move their manufacturing jobs to China and India.

Kuci Much as I hate to be a slave to big business, Walmart has an utterly impressive supply chain logistics structure and succeeds in bringing low prices to everyone. Efficient in all ways, passes it on in a competitive environment and makes huge profits
