A 15 year old girl who was allergic to peanut butter. She kissed her boyfriend - who had previously eaten some - and died of an allergic reaction.

I'm allergic to peanut butter myself so ihave no problems seing how this happened. I've had reactions just smelling the thing.

Just one question - how the heck did she survive for so long ? Peanuts are quite common.

Just by being careful, as i am. And your sensitivity helps to detect it. I've started eating bits of almonds and crackers with peanut butter on it - by mistake or just not paying attention - and i knew almost instanteneously that they were in my mouth. Fast enough to spit it out right away anyway.

Yeah, that is the common way, but if you are so sensitive that a simple kiss from someone who has eaten some peanuts (in this case - peanut butter) can kill you, how come it wasn't dicovered before ?

The story doesn't really makes sense and are really out of proportions - it wasn't the kiss that killed her it was just a peanut that did it.

Not as bad a wheat (though that's not actually an allergy IIRC, it's glutin intolerance). My best friend can't eat wheat

I hate the stuff. Can't stand the odor. It's probably due to the allergy, but it works out OK in my case,

They also didn't do a very good job researching the story apparently. There were three teenagers in the house when it happened and the third one was just on TV. The way he says it, it took some time before they administered the epipen to her.

Seriously, it always sucks when a child dies. I wonder how her boyfriend didn't know she was so allergic to peanuts and why she didn't have one of those emergency shots with her if she knew she could die from even tiny amounts of peanuts.

I always wonder where these kids were when my parents were kids. Is this peanut thing a recent phenomenon or has it always been there?

Same here. I never heard of peanut allergies before the mid 90's or so.


I couldn't imagine being fataly allergic to anything like that. Scary.
